Yikes!  Not the tent, nor the poles, thanks goodness but last time I forgot the stove.  Unless I have caffeine coursing through my veins I'm not nice to know so OH had to make an emergency dash to the nearest stockist of suitcase stoves.  Once I'd caught up with three mugs of tea I was happy again.

I'd not been able to print off my check-list as the printer wasn't working.  It is now though, so thanks for the prompt....I'm going to run off a few lists right now, ready for next year's camping and put them with the camping gear!!  Nothing like being prepared, eh!

We also have a list... or rather I do... hubby laughs at me, but at least I have everything when we get there... including the tent/poles/pegs.... although I did forget my pillow for our main holiday this year. I have a specially shaped memory foam pillow as I have a back/neck problem and I find this helps.... fortunately as we did our shopping at the local Tesco, they had some cheap pillows that we bought and I used two of them together fairly successfully. So much so that I deliberately didn't take my special pillow for our last weekend away!

Kathryn

I use to have an old 6 berth Lichfield frame tent I donated to the local scouts, on the proviso if I needed to use it they would loan it back to me.
One weekend I went with a group of non campers to Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfall, so I borrowed my old tent back for us all to use. I collected the canvas and poles from the scout hut and set off late Friday night.
On arrival we all decided to have a beer or 2 before putting up the tents(4 or 5 to be honnest). We started at arround 10pm putting the poles together, no problem even though I hadn't seen the thing for 12 months or so.
Next the canvas, somehow it looked different to how I remembered it.
It was the wrong canvas.
The scout leader had given me the canvas for one of their kitchen tents, and because of the local ale house supply earlier, we all spent the night in our cars until it was OK to drive home the next day.
I never bothered to borrow it again.

I've never forgotten the tent because I'd almost certainly notice if it was missing since I have to get everything into a rucksack. If the tent wasn't in the rucksack there would be way too much space and it would weigh a lot less.

On the other hand I have forgotten some fairly important things such as cutlery, a tent peg remover, spare guy ropes (which I mostly use for the awning on the tent), batteries for my torch and sunglasses. One time I also forgot to wash out a vacuum flask after a trip, so when I came to use in the next time it had the month old remnants of coffee still in it. Needless to say I didn't bother with a hot drink on that trip!

I feel it might be tempting fate to even answer that question !I forgot the saucepans once but seeing as we were only camping 25 miles away we went home for them next day.Even compulsive list-makers forget things sometimes ...

I was taking my bargain chef annexe to act as shelter for an information stall I was running at a local farmers market... and forgot the poles. Got there, hauled it out of the bag, and thought.. well, I won't say what I thought! Show must go on, however, so I shivered in the great outdoors with my pull-up banner tied to a convenient tree. Day wasn't all bad - I was near the hog roast and the kipper smoker, so the aromas were something special!

It's easy to get caught out, but long, long ago there was a member of our morris dancing/folkie group who was frankly ditzy.  She always forgot something, wherever we were camping, but one day she did the Grand Slam... forgot her tent, so she had to share with someone else - forgot her bedding, so we had to have a whip-round for blankets for her, forgot her kagoule - someone dug a 'thing' out of their boot that they used to lie on to get under the engine... it was waterproof, but had very little else going for it! - and she forgot to bring any money, so we had to have a whip-round, (which to be fair she paid back the minute we got home).

Her excuse was most of it was in two bags which she'd put in the hall to load in the car, and she got distracted by the telephone, so they never went in!

She did, however, remember her bodhran, her melodeon, her drop spindle, her feathered dream catcher, her Morris kit and her doggie, so her priorities were obviously not in the equipment or comfort of the camp!  As there was ice on the tents in the morning, she was just lucky to have friends!

Went to the WOMAD festival this year (an hour or so drive from Cheltenham) and realised once I got there that I'd forgotten the tent poles; or rather, we both had. OH stayed with our stuff while I did a further 2 hour round trip back home to pick up the poles.

Pitched tent, only to then realise that we only had 6 tent pegs. Thankfully the festival sold spares.

Lesson to self: never lend tent to sister again before going to a festival, and always check that I have the poles *with me* before leaving!!!
