Just looking for somewhere to go tomorrow. I was hoping to go to Redcliffe Farm near Wareham but it seems to have closed at the end of September according to the info on UKCS
Bob, how about coming over to Sussex. Kitt's Place is open - seems to be a lovely small site at Scaynes Hill (near Haywards Heath) just off the A272 so easy to get to. They have brand new facilities now as well. We're probably going there at end of October before they close.

I can't find that one, Pete, but what is there to see and do?
UPDATE...found it...it's called Kitts Cottage. According to the reviews it is a basic site, no electric, in the middle of nowhere...and campfires! I'll end up with more little holes in my tent
Not really my type of site. I like coastal, river, canal, or at least a picturesque village with something to keep me occupied. The above sounds great for 'campers' but not us tourists
Thanks anyway...nice of you to suggest it
At the moment I am considering Durdle Door...not sure if I still have the stamina for all the hills there though...a bit out of condition at the moment
Bob, there's Bluebell Railway just up the road, and Wakehurst Place, and half hour drive south gets you to the coast - nice places like Cuckmere Haven (where the coastguard cottages are that appear in several films), and Newhaven Fort, Rottingdean is nice, and there are nice walking places even closer like Ditchling Beacon and Devils Dyke. Firle Beacon nice too. Brighton is just down the road....and is well worth AVOIDING!
How about Graffham (Petworth) for somewhere a but closer? That always gets good reviews and has even got that leccy stuff!
Thanks Pete. I have decided to give Durdle Door a go since I haven't been there for many years and need some exercise and the cobwebs blown away (apparently it will be a little breezy). I phoned the site and they said no need to book because they hardly have anyone there and I will have a choice of all the pitches...which sounds good... unless they are all rough
I will take a look at Sussex another time. I was there only a few weeks ago at the Ship and Anchor Marina site near Arundel. The site was nice but I am not a great lover of the Sussex area generally. I don't know why...it just doesn't rock my boat although I am always willing to try different places.
Been to Thorpe Hall, had a lovely walk along the coast in Bridlington, had a swift pint in a bar overlooking the sea - with the large glass doors pulled back and all of the people on the beach you would have thought we were in the med!! Then had fish and ships at 'the best fish and chip shop in the UK' 149 Marton Road - they were seriously good. Back to the tent for a coffee and a bun and in bed and fast asleep by 10:00. We were back home by 12:00 today, it was just lovely to get away.

Thanks for the advice
What's Durdle Door like Bob? I've read a few dodgy reviews, but I love the Lulworth area.
A lot of Sussex doesn't do much for me either, especially the flat areas in mid Sussex - dead boring. But some areas around Midhurst I like, and also where I live which is pretty high on the South Downs... there's lots of lovely walking around here which is ideal for us with the kids and dogs.
Definitely going to try and hit Wales and also up north or Scotland over the next few months. Also.... I'm sorely tempted to spend a few days camped in the Alps this winter season with one of my kids. So long as we don't freeze to death then I reckon it could be a brilliant experience!

I have never been to the campsite before so at the moment I only know what I have read in the reviews and seen in photos and on Google maps.
It sounds like quite a large commercial site and has a lot of statics. I think I drove in there once looking for a site and drove straight back out again. However, since hardly anyone will be there (apparently) and I am assured the shop and bar is open as normal, then it might be quite nice. I will do a review on my return. A little on the expensive side for me at this time of year especially at £15 a night including EHU...my top limit. I don't think I would ever pay more than that but it's the location and the bar you are paying for I expect...hopefully the beer will be reasonable
The last time I went to Lulworth you could park your car for free on a huge grassy car park on top of the cliffs. Judging by Google it looks like a big developed car park now, and probably costs a fortune. The villagers used to be grateful for the tourist trade...now they charge you for turning up
Just back from Durdle Door. Decided to pack up this afternoon rather than tomorrow morning when the weather is set to be very windy and possibly wet as well. Pretty good site and lovely scenery. Review in due course.
