Hi,

I have noticed that the stitching is coming away from the peg anchor point on the skirt of my tent. Is this fairly easy to repair yourself ? Do i need any special thread for this ?

I would use nylon cotton and a squite of fabsil when i sewed it.

I've always used button thread which is a very heavy duty cotton. Your choice!

Our local haberdashery does 30m reels of white, black and brown "extra strong" cotton. Can be difficult to spot among the ordinary cotton reels, so worth an ask.

I'm planning to get some more black for a couple of repairs myself this week - some missing stitching I've just spotted on the storm skirt of our Kairos, to reattach a guyline tidy that's coming loose and to re-sew an edge that's fraying on one of our camping chairs, among other things. Camping seems to keep me busy on the sewing front...

I used the same cotton earlier this year on a hardwearing indoor upholstery job so having some to hand is quite useful anyway.

If it's a synthetic tent I would use extra strong polyester thread, Gutermann if you can get it, if not Coats Duet. The tent fabric will have a bit of 'give' in it, so you need to use a thread with a bit of 'give' too.

Assuming you can sew, it should be easy enough.

Ideally you want some heavy duty needles (leather/sailmakers),thimble, lightweight work gloves, a small pair of pliers and the right thread.

Sadly, I couldn't tell you what the right thread is.

My gut instinct is a heavy cotton, or possibly silk thread. You want something that swells when it gets damp and makes a nice tight seal.

Kevlar or fishing line will probably hold, but may not be entirely watertight.

Depending on the tent construction, you may have additional options for waterproofing the seam (tape etc).

In the short term, you can probably jury rig a repair with one of the clamp/graber widgets for attaching guylines to tarps. I forget what they are called, but I suspect some clever person on the forum will recognise them from my descripton and tell ya ;)

I always use Nylbond thread from john lewis and then seam seal the repair
