Hi guys I was wondering any good places around the England and Wales where it is good to camp and cycle. I am a student studying product design and my final year project is a pannier bag/ tent combo idea making the 2 link. I also wondered about age range of the people who go on these holidays. It is not a necessity to answer the age question but I am interested on where people like to go. Thanks for any help anyone can give.

I can recommend Cheshire Cycleways very flat with the odd Incline and hills ,Its  brilliant . Lots of lovely country lanes . Also Plenty of Campsites . Very reasonable prices . I have cycled across Cheshire Into North Wales . It can get very hilly here If you go towards the Mountains . You can keep mostly to the coast road . And In and around Chester and Deeside there is a dedicated cycyle route NCR5 . Did about 25/30Miles a day . Camped out In different campsites each night . Varied from Rural Campsites , 4**** Sites , And Caravan and Camping sites . .

It was Brilliant .

Good Luck.

My experience of cycle camping, is the trip I do from Manchester to Annan on the Scottish border some 160 miles over 4 days..

Mostly along the A6, which is used by folk doing lejog, I peel of and go through the Lakes, Windermere, Keswick etc, plenty of campsites (£7 per night) and the route, follows Windemere and Thirlmere lakes, avoiding most of the climbs!, although there is a rather nasty climb just before Thirlmere called Raise Beck, from Town Head, it's a mile of hell!, and I would sooner do 10 miles on the flat lol.

As for tents, I first used a Terranova LaserLite, but that is now relegated to backpacking duties, for the last 5 years I have been using a Hilleberg Nallo 2GT, which has a huge enclosed porch, which will take two touring bikes with ease.

Having quality tyres is all important on a long bike ride, as puncture's are time consuming, I have use 1.3" Slicks which were fine but gave a harsh ride, then tried 1.5" Specialized Nimbus Armadilos, great tyre, but did not roll as nice as the Slicks, I am now running 1.75" Continental Travel Contacts (none reflective) I did think such a large tyre would slow things down, but I have found this not to be the case, rolling is as good as the Slicks, and the ride is like the Speacialized, and in over a 1000 miles I am yet to suffer a puncture.

As for the age thing, I did cycle camping when I was a kid, and I am now turned 50, and I see plenty of silver surfer cycle campers, so I guess any age is fine.

Hi, we've done a little bit of cycle touring, we took it up a couple of years ago - would have been 46 then (48 now).  I think it is something that people tend to do when they don't have kids, either when they are younger or older like us, once the kiddies have grown up.  Apart from the Dutch of course, who cycle tour WITH their children!  So far we have been on four trips - Dorset (v hilly!), round Rutland Water, Holland for a week and five days in Northern France, out of Calais.  All were wonderful  but cycle touring in Holland is extra wonderful because of all the fantastic cycle paths that are everywhere, and also because it's flat ....!  You will enjoy it pretty much wherever you go, I reckon, I know we would   Not sure about a tent/pannier combo though - where would you put your stuff when the tent was up?  Would it not be lying loose and getting in the way?!  If you want to design something truly amazing for cycle touring, then for me it would be a super lightweight tent that you can easily stand up in, that has a good sized porch and doesn't cost the earth!
