Ive seen a number of old frame tents that have been selling with "roof liner", in fact I think my Relly has one, it certainly has something that looks like the curtains and has clips to go on poles, have yet to put it up so cannot be certain.
So as I said in the title - what is a roof liner for please?
Many thanks

In theory it also helps to reduce condensation, but it never worked when I had a frame tent! I think a quilted type liner might work better but would be bulky.

Seems to provide an air gap between then tent roof and living space. Helping to keep the tent cooler during the day and warmer at night.
Also just looks really nice, gives it a glamping luxury feel.
It looks nice, Val, but it'll get drenched if it rains with it touching the canvas. The roof liner isn't just for looks, it creates a bit of an insulated layer to make the tent cooler in hot weather and warmer when it's cold (and they really do work, we did a test when we went to the south of France with our frame tent; one bit 'with' and one bit 'without', the part with the liner was considerably cooler, even though the roof was PVC coated and so not breathable).
They are a faff to put up but can make the tent feel nicer, and lighter, inside.
