OH CHRIST...... wife dragged me round our new Go Outdoors in Colchester and has fallen in love with the Hi-Gear Corado 8...! she said that the constant draft in the Sunncamp Palace is putting her off camping.

But admittedly the Corado 8 looks great with sewn in ground sheets all round, something the Sunncamp Palace lacked..... watch this space !

(told her to sell the Sunncamp Palace first if she wants a new tent)

I really understand your wife! Can't understand how I ever could go camping without a SIG... Well I still do go camping in my old frame tent, but only in warm and dry weather.

And it's not only the drafts, in my frame tent we had a toad visiting at night which s**t all over the place....
And how we should have survived the midges in Lake District this summer without a SIG I can't imagine!

Several people on here (including me) have had tents from them and been very pleased with them.

Saw a one on a camping trip last year and have to say was really impressed.  The owners were given probably the most open pitch on the site during really bad winds.  It was so robust, it barely seemed to move especially compared to some of the other tents which weren't so fortunate.  Not sure what the size difference is between it and your Sunncamp Palace but looks massive so you might find you have to pay a bit more for pitches at some sites.  For even more warmth you could get a carpet too - they make such a difference!  Always said we wouldn't get one but now could never do without one especially with kids.

The size is similar, probably slightly wider.

There were 2 Corados, a 6 and 8 berth, pitched on the same site as us in September, they both had the same problems with the zips on the front door as it was under too much strain to close properly. Then the 8 birth had the front of the tent destroyed in strong winds, the joys of open canopies and strong winds.

our Sunncamp has the same problem, were just careful when pitching not to pull the canvas to tight, once pegged out we unzip the door and take it from there.

We've seen this happen to many an open canopied tent over the years and the fronts and poles of upright fronted tents damaged under the hammering of strong gusts. The wind has no where to shed to unlike tents with sloped wind-shedding fronts and sides. They need so much extra supporting in terms of cross-bracing poles and guys to cope, which many of the more budget-end versions don't have. Wouldn't touch them with a barge pole having seen how badly they can perform. It is a real shame that the manufacturers seem to just be going with consumer whims rather than good wind shedding designs. But then again they or another company will just make another sale when the tent gets ruined. I prefer our tents to have designs that will protect us when the British weather turns...

we've got the corado 6 we brought it this year and the problems with the door seem to be cured we had no problems at all. It is a cracking tent, very sturdy and zero draughts its well worth the money we paid for it. Just seems a long wait till easter till we can use it again.
