We went with our daughter at 8 weeks.
The issue isnt actually with how to take the baby camping but how to not ruin everyone elses time with crying through the night.
On that trip we had no issues but one year my son had an awful night and made a terrible racket throughout the night and we did feel we shouldnt have been there.

Second child born end of April, camping in France beginning of August. It was fine. Granted we booked Eurocamp but I was pregnant when we booked. With the benefit of hindsight I might have taken our tent although given that I do all the driving and most of the setting up that could have been a problem.
As long as you go for layers and keep them wrapped up the temperature shouldn't be much of a problem to be honest. I wouldn't worry too much about the cold - just an extra layer or two. Babies used to survive in the days before central heating and if it's cold you'll notice yourself and cover them up. Breast feeding in the cold isn't that much fun - take a blanket to wrap around you while you do it. Hot weather is more of a problem - I wouldn't fancy it in a tent when its 35 in the shade - but then I'd let the baby sleep outside in the shade rather than in the tent.
If you are happy at home I don't think camping will be that big a problem to you.

I'd echo janespa - I had my first baby in November and although we appreciated that life would change I don't think we were really prepared for what having a newborn is actually like! My daughter is now 9 weeks old and a bit more settled and we ourselves are starting to get used to things - but I don't think we could have even contemplated going camping in the very early days. Some days I struggled to even have a shower and get dressed. It depends on you and the baby of course.
We are planning our first trip for the end of May BH, when she'sll be 6+ months old - it will need lots of organisation. I'd see how you go once your baby is born and how you feel then.
All the best with your new arrival!

We are expecting a baby in April too, so I will challenge you to a race to see which of us gets camping the quickest. My other half is telling me that she will not take a baby camping this year, so I am going to take our 4 year old away myself and once she takes a look at our new tent all set up etc I think that she will change her mind.
Parking your car off site is a good idea incase of non stop night time crying, could go for a ride out if it get thats bad. Otherwise I don't see taking a baby camping is much of an issue really, infact I would say the younger the better, they will just sleep and enjoy the fresh air which is probably better than being shut up indoors at home.
Good luck.

i find this post interesting as we love camping and we always go as a big family together its the highlight of our year and we try to get away as often as we can but this year my daughter is due to have her baby [which we are absolutley thrilled about] she is planning to come away in the tent with us in june 3 weeks before she is due so thats a bit scarey then coming again in september with the baby we camp without ehu and i have been a little worried as to how we will manage, there is plenty of us to help look after the little one, but i the more advice and ideas the better. so we are enjoying reading all your views and ideas please keep them coming.

We took our daughter when she was 17 months. Only because it was our first family camping trip. We all loved it. As everyone has said, just keep them warm & dry. We now have the prob of finding out that she's diabetic ( type 1 ). This isn't putting us off, we just need to adjust things around her
------------- September 27th. I'm going away. Don't care where. Just going!!!!
