Happy New Year to all, hope you're all still happy campers!! Tis my lovely hubbies birthday beg of Feb and was gonna get him his beloved KP stove but can't decide which one, the 4KW or 5KW as there's a bit of difference in size? We've a 5m bell so needs a lot of heating but we have kids so stove will need a guard so its a space against warmth dilemma ? Anyone got any ideas for me please!!!!! Cheers!
Is there really much difference in size, I found my stove could not cope when I used it this week with only one sleeping pod fitted. The extra air space was too much for it. I suppose I'm saying, go for the bigger stove.
Either way, it's worth it.
------------- Canvas tent, paraffin light, petrol stove. Heaven
I'd rather be kayaking.
Spent up, not pent up, just had my new tent up.
Cheers guys I guess I dont want to loose too much space as I'll have to use a fireguard as well, but would like to be toasty too!! Val, how much longer does the fire burn in the bigger stove as I remember the smaller one lasted 3 or 4? What sort of price are you thinking of for it? Also is it okay to go out and about while your stove is on or do you have to let it go out before you head off for a walk etc cos surely it must take a while to get your tent back up warm again!!!!
I know I'm not VAL but I do leave my frontier stove burning when I'm out, I do worry about sparks from burning wood in my stove, and only do so when I'm in residence. When leaving it burning over night and when out walking, I only burn smokeless coal which does not spit.

I've seen a photo comparison of Val's stoves and the 5kw is quite a bit bigger than the 4kw! KP sells the 4kw for the same price as the 2.5kw and it is a couple of inches taller. The 5kw is bigger all round.
I'm going for the 4kw in my 5m bell, for 2 adults and 2 children. I figure if we are camping in winter, we would want EHU anyway so heating could be supplemented with a small radiator. During the summer, when camping without EHU, hopefully the stove would be enough on it's own - we don't normally have any heating in the summer, so this will be a bonus! Plus we will have the inner tent - I aim to position it to the side to allow room to use the stove at the same time (this is all theoretical at present as I haven't even pitched the thing yet!)
Don't forget Val is a hardened winter camper so needs the extra kw's
