sorry if this is a daft question but my tent has only come with 5 pegs ( a higear kalahari ten) Im assuming I should have more so can someone advise where I buy them and how many I may need?
5?! You need pegs for every single guy rope and any straps round the bottom. I've not seen your tent in the flesh but from the pics it looks like you'll need about 20 for the guy ropes and maybe about 10 - 12 for the straps? No doubt someone will come along and be able to tell you exactly how many you need soon.
You can buy pegs at any camping shop or online but you should think about the kind that you buy. The thin metal ones that come with a lot of tents are pretty useless but there are loads of threads on this site talking about the various types available. A lot of people tend to find it helps to have a few different types so you can cope with different types of ground.
Happy camping!

There is a huge wealth of information here on UKCS. So you can very often find the answer to any question by searching previous posts. The 'Search' button is at the top of the page.
For example, if you click the 'Search' button and enter the term 'tent pegs' and select 'All Forums' you will get a lot of useful information.
Try and get Deltas for the guy ropes that come off each of the poles. That will use 10 but keep your tent really securely fixed. Depending on the type of ground your are pitching on you need a variety of pegs - rock pegs are great on medium or hard ground while V shaped pegs are good for soft or sandy soil. Then there are groundsheet pegs with the flat tops, special pegs for King Poles. Ooh, I forgot about screw in pegs. If you think camping is a bit of an addiction you will find pegs is a whole fetish area all of its own......
get a load of new ones - 10" nails with a "T" welded or plastic cap on end are goog and strong. use the one that came with tent for the inner tent and spare.
use strong ones for the lines and fixing point that will take the most force from the wind
