My take on camping with a large tent, is that UK is just not the place, due to the lack of consistant good weather, we only ever do the South of France in July, and have done that since the late 1970's, for our fortnight campings.
But as age creeps up on me, I am thinking, "Folding Camper" or "Pop-Top Caravan", although I think I can easly manage another 10 years with the Tent, so plenty of time to save up for my next unit.
By that time, the cost will not be an issue, I will just be spending the kid's inheritance, untill I kick the bucket, and with a bit of luck, I will go out of this world, with what I arrived with, which is nowt of course!.
You said the UK weather no good. So you cannot go out of the world as you came in, best put a little loin cloth on with the jumper and the socks of course . Then your ready to go.

We have already started skiing & have the jumper etc ready but not for at least 20+ years
so more skiing will make nothing left over.
She would prefer not to spend hundreds of pounds on a new tent as she reckons we'd only use it for a couple of weekends a year or the odd week's holiday.... May need to find a new wife 
I'm hoping the real price is a bit lower than anticipated.
