Given my failure to find a cheap caravan that I am happy with I have decided to ditch it and treat myself to a nice new tent.

I was in Go Outdoors today and got a Kalahari 10 for £190, thought it was a bargain so bought it. I hope that being such a big tent I don't have too many issues with plot sizes on site. I am also looking to buy the porch, carpet and footprint.

Next mission is to buy a decent sized trailer, my roofbox and boot are now at bursting point and whilst I love camping I hate packing the car. So with a good trailer I can keep everything ready to hook up and go, a bit like a caravan I suppose.

Now I need to persuade the Mrs that camping with a new born is ok, our next arrival is due 27th April.

Hi Boston, Thats a great bargain on your Kalahari 10. We puchased the Kalahari 8 last year with the porch and its fantastic. Very quick and easy to put up. We had a week in Cornwall as well as 4 weekend camps last year in the new tent. The week in cornwall we had 25mph winds with gusts well over that for most of the week with some heavy rain and it was solid as a rock. So i would say no problem with the little one for this summer in your new tent.

We have two boys slightly older at 5 and 8 and they have loads of room to themselves

You shouldn't have any problems fitting on a pitch as your tent is 7.1m x 4m.
You only really start to encounter problems when your unit is over 5m wide.

Our 8 berth Khyam Ontario is 7.5m x 3.7m and we have never had any problems being accepted on a site.

Happy Camping with your new baby!!

Tent was a real bargain- I got it £10 cheaper as well beacause the manager had made a mistake and advertised it for £190 so he honoured this price for me at the till.

Tetchy- let me know about trailer or if you can post it in the free adverts on this site I will take a look.

Thanks to all for your kind wishes with my next arrival. We are off to see family this weekend and have booked a travel lodge in Essex- might take my inner tent and air bed with me and have a pretend camping session.
