I decided after a break up and subsequent loss and now lack of car, that my camping gear could sit unused for a long time. I've already placed ads for the tents, but what do I do about the cooker and bottle? Can I sell the gas bottle or not? I'm a bit unsure with it being a gas appliance, that's all.
Ditto the above, are you really sure you want to part with something else you've enjoyed and liked: could someone look after the kit for you for a bit?
That's a shame. Don't be too hasty to get rid of everything in case you regret it later.
About the gas bottle - if you intend to send it with a courier, check their terms and conditions in case it's a prohibited item. If it's got gas in it I don't think you could send it. I've just sold a gas heater on ebay but am left with the propane canisters as they couldn't be sent. I'm not sure what to do with them now.

Local shop advert if you want to sell or Freecycle if you just want them to go. Either way they are collect only

Yes I did have the cream and brown Cabanon, Val. it's in the classifieds now! I'm definitely not going to be able to go again for a while, so this is the easiest way for me. We fell in love with your bell tent anyway, so if next year we are in a apposition to go, that's what we will buy. My teenager hates camping too, so I'm keeping the Lichfield Palladin for me and my son in case we can manage to go with friends or something.
Don't give up your stuff unless it really is the last resort! Obviously I don't know the circumstances of your break-up, but if there's any possibility than you can go camping - to somewhere local maybe if friends can drop you off - then do it. It might just keep you sane in a world which doesn't make much sense at the moment. I kept the caravan and all the camping stuff when I split with my ex three years ago, and thanks to some lovely people on here I had two lovely (and very much needed) breaks away in the 'van that summer at a site not too far from home. I then learned to drive and passed my test, and the world has been my oyster ever since. It's a shame I don't live near to you or I would be willing to transport your stuff for you if you wanted to go.

Please don't rule out going by train.
You really have to be careful what you take and leave the creature comforts at home, but a well planned trip can be very cheap & great fun!
I've done it a couple of times on my own & this easter weekend me n the dog are going from Bham to Betws-y-Coed for £13.
Actually, we're staying on YHA grounds so I don't need so much stuff.
I would hang on to the basic stuff Millie..There are ways and means to get off camping if you really want too
I don't have transport at the moment...So for my main holidays I've booked a van to carry my stuff...Now that's not going to be practical on all my trips this year...So knowing the lack of transport was coming up...I bought a backpack...and some basic camping gear, two man tent etc to get me off for a day or two...I know of at least one site where I can get a bus straight to it...And will be looking for others I can reach using public transport..
I'm even considering buying a bike..fitting it with panniers and getting off that way..Though I have to tell you I'm a middle aged unfit fella and the thought of wandering the countryside with a backpack or on a bike does not really appeal to me at the mo...But I will give it a try if it means I can get off for a few days.....
