Hi, I'm going camping with my dog for the first time.
I've found a site with the YHA that will have us, since I'm a member and it will save me taking cooking equipment (I'm going on the train, so space/weight are premium).

I was wondering if there is anything special I need to consider Re the dog?

Keep it on a lead and ensure it is tied up properly when not being walked.

Advice? most dogs love camping so don't worry. Take your dog's water bowl and plenty of water to drink on the journey. Take lots of poo bags.

Ground insulation, ours has a third of a foam roll up mat to sleep on & an old cheap sleeping bag that he snuggles into.

We always make sure he has his coat packed. Rarely use it at home but if it's raining he takes ages to dry off in a tent.

Yep...On a lead at all times on site...and tethered outside your tent when not off on a walk...Some form of insulation between his bed and the ground...And his own towel for a rub down if its raining or hes been for a swim..A supply of the food he has at home...Saves any upset tums while away...

If you are looking to buy the thethers and leads for them try are half price at the minute at pets at home on line so they are the cheapest around at the minute since I needed to buy three sets it saved me a good bit.

I also got plastic beds for mine as they can slot into each other and will be much easier to keep clean tan there cloth beds at home, I also bought fleece blankets for £1 at home bargains to warm the plastic up a bit for them, however I know they ilk end up on the bed on top off us.

If you need to buy a tether then I would suggest getting a Delta ground anchor - they are flat and peg flush to the ground with three tent pegs, only about 4ins across so therefore much smaller and easier to pack than the corkscrew type ones if space is at a premium.

I was going to recommend the delta ground anchor too......when we go to a less "formal" site then our dog has a horse lunge rein attached to it, she can`t wander off but has a bit more roaming room.

Fabreeze.......if you have a wet trip, the tent carpet gets a bit stinky!!
