Always assuming you've got what you need, the buying stops as soon as you want it to: so much of it is pure consumerism.

When you're tempted to buy something, just wait until you're actually camping and then ask yourself how much benefit you'd actually get from it in reality.

This comment doesn't include stuff like Val's amazing crafts, that's creative which is a different thing entirely and to be encouraged!

Have to say my purchases are restricted to small things now simply because we have run out of room to store anything else! I was in the supermarket in December and got really excited because they were selling off collapsible collanders. Hubby just shakes his head and walks away.
I know that feeling, we HAD a collapsible colander, it worked, it packed but then Outwell brought out a chopping board with integrated collapsible colander, so, well, it sort of made sense and anyway it was a nice colour-
small things, just small things from now on - is that a way to wean myself off this obsession?

Yes, small things, definitely. Last summer Blacks were selling these really cool slotted serving spoons that folded in half. They were amazing but ridiculously expensive. I was able to sneak one to the till, buy it and put it in my handbag without hubby or the kids knowing! Result.

And yes I know its consumerism gone mad. I am not a materialistic person generally but there is something about camping stuff. I think it goes back to playing houses when I was little. I have friends who go abroad and buy whole new wardrobes of clothes every summer. I buy slotted spoons and colanders.
