we had a roofbox, and a trailer, that was pulled by a 1.4 ceed (non estate) with 5 people (2 adults 3 teenages) roofbox like other threads was for the lighter stuff, and windbreaks, you are governed by the roofbox limit about 50kg, we used to put the heavy stuff in the trailer, tents and all the other bits, clothes in the boot of the car, obviously being a 1.4 it did struggle on inclines, but we were never pulled by the boys in blue, providing your careful and dont overload, you should be ok. As with everything you adjust over time, we decided last year to ditch the trailer and ceed, and now have a citroen berlingo and roofbox, which doesnt govern us to 60mph unlike with the trailer.
