Family time is priceless. Kids grow up so fast and we don't give them as much time as we should. It is the simple things and cheapest things they keep in there memories TIME and LOVE.
It seems to be in this fast paced world that as long as we give our kids 'quality time' thats enough. It isn't in my view.
It's quantity not quality, and that's what camping gives you. Our son has a language and communication difficulty - the best thing for him.... camping!
No DS, no computer, TV etc - just other kids to make friends with and talk to. A full weekend of speech therapy!
What a lovely little girl, and what a great day you had! Your post has made me yearn for the days my two were little and loved camping with me in the garden. Make the most of it. These days are gone all too soon!
What a fab time you both have had. We expect our children to grow up too fast these days. I remember spending soooo much time out in fields building camps out of cardboard with my mates and I want my son to enjoy all those fun times too. My parents were caravaners, but we have chosen camping (until our bones get too old and we need need softer conditions and the we will switch to a van lol) it's great when they have those big beaming smiles on their faces from such simple pleasures.

August 2013, 14, 15, 16 & 17-Trevornick for two and a half weeks of sea and surf (and ever optimistic -lots of sun). Some other weekends if I can persuade DH
This is wonderful :-) The most successful thing I did with my class last year was camping day. We all worked together to put up a cheap little dome tent, inflate an airbed, put in a sleeping bag, attempt to make our own tents from garden canes and fabric, and cook tins of beans on a camping stove to eat outside. We then had the tent to play in outside for the rest of the term. The children I have again this year (mixed age class so some stay with me for two years) are already begging to do it again. Forget the fancy trips, the elaborate activities and "wow" lessons, children still love the simple things in life!
That smile on your daughters face tells me all I need to know about what she thought of her day garden camping...
And reminds me of that song by Dean Martin(I think) Memories Are Made of This... And to paraphrase..."Take one small and tender kid" "Add a lovely day of bliss" "Memories are made of this"
You will be sat there years from now...And she will turn to you and say "Remember that day way back in 2012 when we camped in the garden?" And I assure you you WILL remember it!!
Jelboy.

This is a lovely thread! I'm so glad that I had an outdoor childhood and not one crammed full of electronics. Your daughter looks so happy, and I'm glad she has a mum who does this kind of thing with her and makes plenty of wonderful memories for you both to look back on x

Thanks to everyone who commented on my post. I have just had such a lovely feeling since our garden camp, it made me realise how much little time i spend with my youngest child. She the youngest of three the other two are 14 and 12 and are much more able and indpendant than her. She has terrible glue ear and struggles academically. It made me cherish the fact that who needs brains to play in a garden and have fun!
