Welcome! I echo fragglerock74. NEVER move any of your cooking equipment into your tent to stave of the chill. Carbon monoxide is odourless & colourless.
On a positive note, camping will give you many happy memories for the kids for years to come. You'll find a lot of campers went camping with their families when they were kids, although things have come on a long way since!
Happy camping!

Hi all. Thank you for all your advice and tips. We have got a basic one ring stove, lantern and torches, beds and sleeping bags. Will see how we go from there. First trip away is just a one night stay.
My advice would be that for your first ever camp you don't go to the middle of nowhere. It's amazing what you will forget to take the first time out (and even on your 50th time) so if you have a town nearby where you can just go and buy it your time will be so much easier. On our first ever camp we forgot to take cutlery!
Like weddings, putting the word "camping" in front of some products means the price doubles. When buying stuff to use in the tent think if you can get a similar product that will do the same job.
keep your eyes open in poundland for some cheap battery operated led string lights for the kids sleeping area of the tent and also for cheap inflatable chairs for them or even small folding stools. Choose a site with a pool or restaurant to make life easier the first time out. :)

You will love it, last weekend was our first time away I loved it so much so I am sitting in my tent just now away again with the loch just a few feet away and just watched the most amazing sunset.
Most important off all have fun
Purplerain - you're all grown up!!. Second camping trip, what a star!
We put the tent up in the garden today, and cooked dinner out there to. The kids thought it was great fun. I didnt realise it was such hard work putting it up and taking it down lol! Atleast we know how to do it now.

This is the best advice... I'm only cottoning on to this very late it could have saved me a fortune. Camping cutlery is just one thing i wished i'd bought elsewhere.
Try packing the car before you go, it's amazing how quickly the boot fills up.
Be prepared to have a row erecting the tent ( it's camping rules)
By 10pm it feels like 2am and everyone is shattered.
Buy plenty of ice and a trug to keep the beer and wine cool! ( very important)
Don't waste a fortune on cheap equipment, see what you need and buy to last.
And finally, go with the flow, don't stress trying to get everything done in a rush just take your time and enjoy!!!

I would definately say best advice is to take all the advice you can from the good people on here.
We only started a year ago and our first trip was a success thanks to this website and those on it. In fact the friends we went with who were regular campers couldnt believe how well organised we were with equipment etc, and thats all thanks to the advice i got on here a year ago!!
