hi all - so a group of us (mums and kids) are due to go on Friday morning, near Bodiam Castle. forecast isn't too good for the friday but not so bad for saturday/sunday.

so the adults are obviously a little unsure about going - but the kids are just adamant that we are going, (age ranges 12 - 7) - they have said even if it's raining we are going!!!!!

SO - do we go?? my only dilemma is that i fear we may be setting up tents etc in the rain on Friday - which is obviously no fun, but then again, if it's only showers maybe get a tent up between each shower!!! if we do go will keep it to the basics, and not take loads to set up etc.

On the plus side we can have campfires so can keep warm (even if it's sitting under brollies!!!)

Well MOLLYJESS, we're taking the plunge this weekend and setting off for a couple of nights at Loch Ken, South West Scotland. Forecast isn't looking too bad - some light showers Friday and Saturday, dry on Sunday. It's the temperature I'm more concerned about, getting as low 0 degrees during the night. That said, our three season Gelerts and some extra duvets should keep us cosy - and we'll have our wee fan heater to defrost the icicles from our noses in the morning.

In terms of your campfire, brilliant if you're able to do that. Last year I bought a small Chimnea. I took our gazebo, put the Chimnea in the centre of it and arranged the chairs around it, it worked a treat. The smoke from the fire simply rises to the top and vents from the sides.

Go on, be a devil and give the kids an adventure. My view is always to ask myself "What's the worst that can happen?"

Regards,

Marty2711.

our friends have a gazebo and we did contemplate taking that to sit under around the fire - but wasnt sure about the smoke etc - do you think an open fire would be a bit much for a gazebo??

I don't think an open campfire in a gazebo would be wise. Depending on what you're burning it might spark and give off cinders among the smoke which would most definately burn or even hole the gazebo deeming it useless for it's intended purpose.

If you're going to use a Gazebo it may be wise picking up a wee Chimnea, you can get them for about twenty quid. Because they're steel they really heat up giving you a kind of low tech radiator!

I'm off for a couple of nights with my 3 year old - forecast says it will be around -1 to -3 on one night (!), but I'm sure we'll be fine!

I want to go, to try out me latest eBay bargain, but depends on the weather. Don't want to cope with 6 berth worth of wet canvas on my first trip!!!
