Hi Jules

Is the tent leaking? If it isn't I would be inclined to leave it alone!

If you are finding water in the tent, are you sure it isn't just condensation? Better ventilation will help.

I would put it up and give it a good soak with a hose (if that's. Here fly legal where you are...). See if water comes through - a fairly new tent shouldn't leak (I'm assuming it's fairly new, the earliest review on here is from 2009)

To answer your question, though - I would lean towards using seam sealer on the seams - but to be honest, I have not actually had to waterproof a tent in my life...

No need to waterproof a polyester tent unless there is a problem with it and the seams are taped so shouldnt need anything doing to them unless you have a leak

Oh dear......i see the old 'waterproofing' question has popped up again eh Arsenaldes?

juleshs - I would say one thing about waterproofing your tent, if it gives you peace of mind, then go for it! I had the same dilemma last year. Albeit, my tent was second hand from eBay. I only did mine because I didn't have any history of the tent, ie-if it was watertight etc. Whether it needed doing or not, it did make me feel that little bit safer in the knowledge that it wouldn't leak on our main holiday to Cornwall and boy did we need it to be watertight in the end!!!!

If your's is a new tent, only used by yourselves then you will know if it's leaked or not in heavy rain. It's different if it's second hand.

Alot of people do get mistaken with condensation in a tent with inadequate ventilation. If you have drips from the ceiling of your tent in the morning's, despite rain during the night, it's more than likely condensation from your breath. You can't stop that or improve on it if you have the vent's on your tent closed all night. Most tent manufacturers recommend them to be open, especially at night as it's when you spend most of your time in your tent (sleeping)!!!!

Good luck with your decision.
