Usually no more than an hour drive for a weekend trip as often I can't get away before 6pm on a Friday.

I like to keep kit down for a 2 night break, so I take the suitcase stove instead of the 2 burner stove and grill with gas bottle, depending on time of year I might still take EHU, dont' take the kitchen stand (I use the table) etc....

Lettershaws Farm at Abington/Biggar is a small basic site I use a lot...Be aware it is very basic..Not much more than a field with some ehu and a hut for the toilets and 1 shower?? But the views are great..and a walk along the burn with the dog suits me..Or you can ramble over the grouse moor all day if you want...Plenty to do with kids in the area..Lead mining village of Leadhills is only 2-3 miles away and you can do a guided tour into one of the old shafts or pan for gold in the burn outside the visitor centre...

Witches Craig outside Stirling..Is at the foot of the Pentland hills..5mins in the car from the Wallace Monument 10 mins from the castle..Less than an hour for you along the motorway!!

Both can be found in the campsite search facility at the top of this page...As can a few others that might take your fancy....
