We were so looking forward to our first trip of the year on Sunday for 3 nights, to Masons Campsite, Appletreewick....a couple of good long walks planned, Monday night into Grassington to watch City v United (Russ big City fan)...a romantic *us* time...
But my bible netweather is showing nasty horrid strong winds, arrrggghhhh!
I have put in lots of other destinations on netwet & there is not much variation which ever location I choose.....
There is still time for the winds to lessen so all I can do is pray...
I camped just up the road from Masons campsite on a farm site on the top of the hills, couldn't even get our tent up and it snapped a pole, we gave it up as a bad job but on our way back we decided to try Howgill Lodge which was literally a 5 min drive away, well what a difference, it was well sheltered and lower down on kind of tiers, when I asked another couple if they had any difficulty getting the tent up they looked at me gone out!
Masons campsite is also low down as we visited there, I think you will be fine there, if not head round to Howgill's and see if that's ok however it is a bit pricey.
Weather is appalling - I know we need the rain and all that, but - yuk! My daughter, hubby and toddler are hoping to get away in north Wales from next Monday - first trip with the little 'un. I just hope things have calmed down a bit by then!
------------- Always edited for sloppy typing - when I spot it!
I know how you feel. We had to cancel Easter and this would be the first weekend we have had chance to go since then. The forecast from Saturday morning is giving 20mph winds and 30 to 36mph gusts, then heavy rain Sunday morning.
So unfair - I want to go camping!!! Final decision needs to be made tomorrow.
Just daren't risk it..........soooo have booked a luxury mega pod (their description) at Uplands near Haworth. There were empty shell types or ours which has a loo, double bed, sofa, tv, fridge etc.
We still have to cook outside so will need some of our kit but no chance of being blown away!!
We are also getting an extra night, as it was the same price for 3 or 4 nights!! £99.50, so it's not costing much more per night as Masons..
So now it's Haworth that will hear Russ screaming n shouting Monday night!!
Glad you have got something sorted. Metoffice is now showing 39mph gusts for the early hours of Sunday morning where we were going. Mmmm, so thats me lying awake half the night hoping the tent isnt going to be blown to bits.
Decision made I think unless the forecast changes dramatically overnight! Kids are going to be so disappointed.
ANGEDAWS,
we are in same situation for this weekend.looks like the rain is to stop but wind to take its place!!
My kids looking forward to camping this weekend as well, but the site we go to is quite exposed and OH is at work over hour away if the wind does get worse
We have got the may weekend booked anyway, and i don't suppose its worth risking damaging the tent for one weekend?lets hope we get a good summer
Well I am just wondering whether I can persuade everyone to go if we take the minimum of stuff and pack up Saturday evening.
The weather looks OK until the early hours of Sunday morning - and we are only half an hour from home. I need to try and sell this idea to OH who is not as mad on camping as me!!!
