Don't regret it.   The extension makes it feel like you are still outside and you can quickly take it down if too windy. I've had an extension and been camping with it about 5 times over about 6 weeks and not yet had to take it down.

I've only ever taken my Nevada extension down once and that was in the gales in 2010. I'd always choose an extension over an awning for the same reason as Andy said - you can be 'outside' whatever the sky's throwing at you!

Hi Dawn - we've got the Zenobia porch and have camped in some high winds and not lost it yet (touch wood).

Make sure the front door is zipped up so air can't get inside and when you put it up try and get it fitting snugly to the sides of the tent (took us a few goes to get this right). The key thing will be to check the prevailing wind direction. Because the porch is anchored to the main tent by a flap which passes over the top, what you don't want is the wind getting up and under that flap. I invested in some heavy duty stick on vecro and attached the end of the flap to the side of the tent so wind couldn't get up underneath it - worked a treat. However having had it for a few years, we'll be making sure our next tent has a built in porch/canopy - just because it's less hassle.

Have to admit, that's the one thing I miss about our Filey 6. I used to love sitting under the canopy. We can roll the front of the porch bit up on the Vermont but it's such a pain cos it's all pegged down generally - that said, we haven't really had the weather where I've wanted to do that anyway since we've had the Vermont hehe! (I have big hopes for the summer this year.....)

Reading the replies I feel that the benefit of the extra space I'll gain outweighs the inconvenience of taking the porch down occasionally when expecting winds. But take it down I will - there are a few too many stories of damaged tents to ignore. I'll just have to make sure I keep a very close eye on the weather forecast whilst I'm away
