Hi gedhart.

C&CC use the same firm as Alan Rodgers which is Shield both are underwritten by Vantage insurance, and I found that I could negotiate a slightly better deal than what I got when I was a C&CC member.

Just printed of my inventory, which stretches to seven A4 pages!, handy info to have though should the worst happen, and also makes for an invaluable check list for packing.

I recon the new price for all my kit including tent & trailer is around 4 times the current market value which is what I am insured upto. and is still less than I paid for it all in the first instance.

Well I've read through all these posts (and more), and I'm now thinking for us, we might not bother with insurance especially for the tent/contents. We have an old vango 400 (there are five of us!), I have a decent sleeping bag but our equipment is neither new nor expensive, so nobody's going to nick it.

Am I mad not to consider it?

Will get on to home insurance to see if we're covered for contents while we're in it (i.e if the Normandy weather in July isn't kind to us!).

I think that's a perfectly sensible decision Elie.If you see both the values at risk and the likelihood of loss as low, then it makes more sense to carry your own risk in the circumstances not covered by your home insurance.

My advice is worth no more than the price paid for it

I agree with mike Ellie ... We insured but all our stuff was new .. And that is why I considered it ... As time goes on .. I am sure we will think the same

Insurance for camping kit is a tough one, especialy if based on current value, but if you can play the game it could be worth while.

Our kit is insured upto around 30% of it's current new value, although it only cost me around 25% of current value, so in the event of a claim for total loss, at least I would get back more than what I paid for the kit, even though that would not be enough to replace it all.

But at least I would have enough wonga from the payout to replace the big ticket items.

Our inventory runs to over 250 sku's, all listed and itemised ready, should the worst happen.

For a premium of just over £100 for the year, I am more than happy with the T&C's, and I would doubt any insurer would value our kit at below 25% of market value for current value, when the oldest bit of kit is just 3 years old, but who knows?.

It's a gamble but for just over £100 is one worth taking imho.

If you even manage to make a successful claim on your household insurance won’t your annual premium just increase the following year..?
