Monty comes with us everywhere.  Normally if there are no obvious signs on shops/pubs to say no dogs then I ask do they allow dogs in, you'll be surprised how many do. 

For us a windbreak is essential, stops eye contact with other dogs and disturbing him when kids run past playing.  The first day or two he is jittery cos its a new place but after that he gets into it and settles down no problem.  He's a seasoned traveller now and will be 5 at the end of this month whew! where does the time go??

I absolutely love the idea of taking a potting tray to double up as a dog bath, my chap is trained to go on a mat to wipe his feet (he'll do anything for a biscuit lol) but being so low to the ground and white he does tend to get mucky.

Mohjy I think we're all a bit that way with our dogs. As an example Boo has her own space at home, which I refer to as her bedroom, plus she has her toy basket right by her bed, doggy wall art hanging above her on the wall (doggy decorations), and no one is allowed to mess with her room.

I also insist that we leave a light on for her. OH thinks I'm slightly nuts. I just like to think of myself as a caring momma to a special needs collie

Some dogs are escape artists for certain!

Mine is a Border Terrier, and he is not keen to dig or go underground unlike others of his breed.

He will try and poke his nose at zip joint to see if he could get out.

My new tent has a zip in groundsheet, and I have to make sure both the inner tent as well as the main door zips are done up properly before I leave him, otherwise, he will try and get out if he can be bothered to get off his bed.

Mohjy - the Portugeezer (OH) is the same. Didn't want a Boo. Now he's more than just a little pathetic with her. Men!

DK - one of the must-haves for our tent choice was a SIG. And Boo can open doors but I'm thinking zipped ones will fox her for a while. I'm getting a bit excited at the thought of going camping with her now.

Of course the thought of camping with my daughter and the Portugeezer is equally exciting

Same problem here, left unsupervised he'd probably squirm his way underneath, for that reason he is usually tethered on a long line lead.  Zips have to be done up so they are out of reach, mine can open zips otherwise.

Need to be one step ahead all the time

The only thing I do that's with mine that's a bit different is I take a folding crate that I can use in the living area of the tent if need be. It stops them trying to bolt if they hear thunder or fireworks, and means we don't have to worry about them worming theiur way out under the door if we're sitting in on a rainy night. It's also handy if I go for my shower before OH is awake!

They sleep in the sleeping pod with us though, snuggled up on our bed if it's a chilly nihgt.
