I remember when mine were little we ended going to bed not long after they did and getting up early with them! We used to have this vision of tucking them up in bed and relaxing outside the tent with a glass of wine but we were always shattered by about 9.30pm.   Expecting them to be tucked up and asleep at 7.30pm is just not going to happen and you need to go with the flow or it will just stress you out.

Hubby used to share one bedroom pod with our eldest and I slept in the other pod with our youngest for the first couple of years after we started camping. Not very romantic but we found that if anyone woke up in the night we could settle them before they were both wide awake.

Even now my 11 year old gets very grumpy after 3 or 4 late nights and if we are away for a week or more we insist on one early night every so often.

Decided when we went with grandchildren last year just to go with the flow. The girls were 6 and 9yrs. The play area was opposite our tent and  were sitting watching them, then at 9.00pm when the majority of the children were going back to their tents, it was showers, then sitting around the fire, in their pyjamas and dressing gowns, with melting marshmallows and hot chocolate. They then went straight to sleep. Cant see the point of early nights on holiday, they go early on a school night. Obvoiusly what time they are back to the tent depends on light nights etc. Taking them away 3 weeks time, ca'nt wait.

Our 4 yr old is a nightmare for going to bed, and think 11pm has been around latest (nearly always on a first night the latest).  Think like someone else said its the excitement and the change of routine, not too mention hearing/seeing other kids still out playing!!

first time we went i was stressed out about his bedtime, not gettin sleep, not eating enough etc etc, but now just whole lot easier for us all to play things by ear, enjoy it and go with the flow.

Have a fab time

We never had or have a problem . Both girls have camped from being babys so it's just normal . Unless we for some reason need an early start there's no point trying to get them in bed to early . It's a big part of camping staying up watch the stars round a camp fire . Eat late watch the sun set it's what memories are made of so don't be in a rush to get kids in bed . But enjoy the nights there so tired they want to go to bed early
