my hubby and I both work in the same place, meant to be off to a sharp exit today for our first ever family camp... but we ended up getting held up at work.

I've phoned the campsite to let them know we'll be there in the morning instead( thought a first time tent erection should be done under better conditions where the littlies that would be getting tucked into bed shouldn't be hearing that kind of language!)

so we'll be up and at it tomorrow first thing, the campsite have said we can turn up anytime :)

So we're still going, just for one less sleep :(

Oh nightmare. Still at least you are getting away while the weather holds. Is it Tyndrum you guys are heading to?

At least you are getting away. We would have been away in a shot but I'm working nightshift tomorrow and Sunday!

Have a great time.

not our little one she's 13 and heard it all at school by now!

I was thinking of other kids who might not want to hear the full repertoire of hubby's lingo.

I want to be off really sharp so we can get pitched before it gets really hot so yes you're right I'll be well rested and hopefully the road to tyndrum will be a bit quieter than a Friday teatime would have been.

hubby is still in the pub as I type so hell mend him in the morning... I'm going tomorrow morning nothing will stop me!! ( fingers crossed)

Life would be so much more fun if only work didn't get in the way, huh?  Still, no work, no money to go on camping holidays, I guess, so maybe those of us in work should be grateful to be so.

One of my retired customers today was preparing his motorhome ready to set off for a lovely weekend away as soon as I'd finished grooming his dog.  I was so envious, itching to get our tent out and head off to some quiet, sunny spot away from it all....

Have a brilliant time when you get there and we'll eagerly await your report of how it went.  Bet the littlies are excited!

nope. dd is 13 and underwhelmed but I bet she changes her mind when she sees there's room in her bedroom pod to take a friend with her... if I can whittle down the gear so there's a seat for her pal that is!

hubby is back so I've given him a big supper and cup of tea so he wont drink any more.

roll on the morning:-)

Make sure you've got lots of midge repellent-the evil little buggers are out in force everywhere just now! Have a great time!

ooh thanks for the warning. I found some Deep Woods Off in the travel bag so its already packed. the pine trees campsite has got midge machines so hopefully there won't be swarms of them. we last saw these in Canada ( where we got the deep woods off stuff) and they were very effective.

I'll try and remember to write in the review whether they work on the dreaded midges as successfully as they do on mossies:-)

well we made it. got the tent up and it is not great. it's quite breezy and the whole tent is swaying in the breeze. two aerobeds don't fit in the bedroom pod that 3 people are meant to fit into so hubby will sleep in the central section and dd will have the Wilkinsons 5in1 sofa in her bedroom pod. there's no way I'd take this camping for a week so we'll have to have a rethink for summer.

the pine trees campsite is very good and busy too.

the tent is the tesco vis a vis 6 man and we only paid £50 for it so didn't expect it to be terrific.

I now know how to attach guy ropes the right way up and that the regatta moon chair isn't worth the boot space but the wilkos sofa is. learning a lot today!

any tips on tensioning guy ropes on a cheap tent much appreciated :-)

well I got talking to fellow campers and it turns out it was pretty windy when we were setting up. combined with having the guy ropes on upside down it's little wonder our poor tent was swaying in the wind.

I'll be passing the tent on to someone else once I get the bell tent ( hubby has agreed as it isn't really such a bad tent for fair weather.

off to ask some bell questions on the tent info forum. :-)
