What does everyone do about travelling with their dogs, in particular large ones? There is no way all the gear AND the dog would fit in the car, as we have two kids in the back as well so he couldn't sit on the back seat.
I have a Vw Golf and my Lurcher goes in the boot with some stuff under his bed ; fold flat bbq ,tent, roll mats , sleeping bags etc . I took my daughter , son and his gf a few years ago ( all in their teens ) and we got everything in the car and the Thule Ranger roof bag . On that occasion we took the Icarus 400 and a 2 man tent .
I think the thing to remember is that people do tend to take too much stuff with them when camping ; things you don't need or can do without , or even get when you arrive . It's not like we all camp hundreds of miles from civilisation .
I was totally ruthless a few years ago , got rid of loads of stuff and although not minimalist , I try not to take too much . I like to pitch the tent , empty the car , a quick drink , then out with the hound . Especially if I stay at Beadnell as my dog loves the beaches there ; an evening walk round the Bay is a favourite
