Help!

I've just looked at the weather forcase for our 1st trip away and it's gone from glorious sun to rain :-(

Does anyone have any tips for erecting a tent and getting set up in wet weather. Our tent is a Corado 4 and if someone has any tips to make pitching easier it would be appeciated.

Thanks.

When packing the car, make sure your tent is the last thing in, so you can take it out when you arrive on site, allowing you to pitch it without unloading the car. Also make sure you've got all your pegs and mallet handy...

Hi

Its more difficult if you have a pitch inner first style tent

The colarado 4 seems easy enough, just lay it out flat in the general shape

Wait for the rain to ease, and go for it, or try pitching under a tree

You should be used to the rain in Manchester, where are you going to

Pete

We are off to Cornwall and can't wait. It's just a shame about the weather. We are just hoping that the weather forcast changes again.

If you can, pull the car as close to the door of the tent for unloading and the same if you have to pack up in the wet.

If you have to pack up in the wet, take the inner sleeping pods out and roughly roll the main tent into a bin bag ready to put back up/or hang somewhere to dry as soon as you can when you get home.

Good luck I hope you get some dry spots to set up/pack up.

When we were young and used to camp with mum and Dad, and it was raining as we were packing up. We used to either pull the car as close as possible, or if you have a trailer, pull it inside the tent (or porch) then pack everything in the car/trailer and take the tent down last and place on top. This makes it easier when you arrive home as the tent is first thing unpacked and put to dry.
Hope this helps. Have a fab holiday!

I would personally avoid pitching under a tree - mainly because I wouldn't want to get sap on the tent.

The main rule is have a plan. Stick to it and work quickly and calmly.

When pitching in the rain, you will get wet - get used to it. Don't be scared of the rain, don't try and avoid getting wet. The sooner the tent is up, the sooner you can get dry and have a cup of tea.

Personally, in heavy rain, I tend to forget about waterproofs - hoods annoy me and without a hood so much rain gets down my back the jacket becomes pointless. I usually wear shorts and a t-shirt and get changed straight afterwards.

We took several cheap tarps, make sure they are fairly new as they can leak. Pitch tent quickly, then reverse car up to doorway. Clip tarp across from hatch of car to top of tent to make awning. Pass bedding through under tarp.
Reverse on leaving. We also put a dry tarp on top of the packing before placing the wet tent loosely on top. Drive with warm air blower on and windows slightly ajar.

Thanks for all the replies. We are going to have an amazing time regardless of the weather, I suppose I started to worry about nothing as it's our first time camping.

Once again, thank you all.
