Hi All,

Not been posting for some time now but we have our first camping trip in a while booked for the 9th June for a week.

Just wondered what tips people have for keeping kids entertained in wet weather. We will have the in car DVDs for them to watch (have EHU) but don't want them glued to those all the time plus they'll get bored.

Of course, we are hoping for sunshine but want to get prepared this week and next.

Get them waterproofs and let them play out - on a number of occasions I have had wet, muddy but happy kids.
However I do appreciate that there are only so many walks in the rain etc. that you can do, especially if you are unlucky enough to get a bad week (been there before now).
Cheap colouring books etc.   Poundshops are a good source of these - don't take that special set that was bought for a birthday, because odds are it will be the favourite pink pen that goes missing.
Comics/books and things like DSs.
I always take my portable DVD players and although I hope that it stays in the car, there have been times when it has been really useful - not only when it has been wet, but once or twice of an evening when we just wanted to chill as a family.

Fingers crossed for lovely weather - I've also got them crossed for next week, when we're away.

I'm all for letting them play in the rain!

But... we do have one or two backup days out somewhere indoors.

Thanks.

Yes - I just need to get the little one kitted out in waterproofs and I'm happy for them to play out on the rain but I know that won't last long.

We have Tesco vouchers to use for a couple of days out, one is the zoo so not really indoors though!

I will stock up on some colouring books etc, will also have 2 (small) bags of small toys for them both I think. Oh and stickers, they both love sticker although I don't want them stuck all over our kit LOL!!

Don't know what I'm worrying about though, I'm sure it'll be glorious!

We are taking a new small set of Lego each for them to build if the weather is bad. It should keep them occupied for a while.

We all have water proofs & if its a rainy day we go on a treasure hunt, but we also have a plastic box of camping games which I vary each trip , which includes as well as coloring book & pens, coloured dominos so that our 4  yr old can play, card games such as snap or happy famillies,a magic painting book - you only need water, threading beads & stickers all from the wonderful pound shop or similar.

We always used to not go if rain was predicted, but found we often missed out  so we now go.

Have a great time

I raid the pound shops before we travel and get a selection of assorted activities as well as paper and pencils. Mine are little bit older than yours, but plasticine (not playdough - it's too sticky if it gets dropped), pipe cleaners for making models and sticker books have always gone down well. For one particularly wet holiday in Wales my son (who was about 7 at the time) bought a cut out motorbike kit from the Works which he worked on with his dad - somehow it survived and still lives on his bedroom shelf! We also have a pack of playing cards, a set of Top Trumps, dominoes and magnetic board games in the entertainment bag.

Away from the campsite, I've often found County museums very cheap with trails and competitions for children and of course swimming at the local leisure centre if all else fails!

Hopefully you won't need any of this and there will be wall-to-wall sunshine for your trip

Oh yes, snap games and love the idea of coloured dominoes :) Also love the idea of pipe cleaner models.

Off to the pound shops then over the weekend. Always best to be prepared although my hubby will roll his eyes when he sees all the stuff to get in the car

What did we do before Poundland for cheap craft supplies? They're ideal for taking camping, mine love them. The husband doesn't when we end up with half the kids on site visiting.
