Anyone got some advice for me?
We are new to camping, and are now geared up and raring to go, but whilst searching the site reviews on here, I've noticed a number of sites state "No vans or commercial vehicles allowed".
I have a Vauxhall Astravan. Basically, the equivalent of an estate car with no back seats, (and no rear side windows, of course). Clean, tidy, and no sign-writing/logo's etc.
I know the ultimate answer will be to "ring and check first", but was just wondering if any of you use a similar vehicle, or if you have any related stories?
Much appreciated.
Mucker.

well, i think we topped all that, as a family of six we simply could not move in our mpv, so we got a small trailer, not happy with that, we sold the car and trailer and got a 9 year old vw transporter,(9 years old and still cost a fortune!) had rear seats and side windows fitted, at last all our problems were solved, we all had a seat , lots of legroom and loads of storage space....but when we return home from cornwall this year we have decided to sell the van, go back to an mpv and get a cabanon trailer tent.. what a journey this camping game is!

hi there mucker - we had this problem in Oban in scotland a couple of years ago. we wanted to take our bikes to our camp base so we hired a van from enterprise and it was brand new and very nice - but when we got to the campsite - they said you cant bring that in here as its a commercial vehicle and that the only options we had were to either park the van at the bottom of a 1/2mile long steep uphill driveway and unload and carry everything to our pitch or to leave!!! - nice!
so we left and went elsewhere! - they said that if the van had a side window in the back section then it could come onsite as it would then be deemed to be a camper! - i honestly couldnt be bothered with this attitude and left and we havent had a problem since on any other site with our vans.
so if you get a side window fitted then you seem to be ok! maybe others more experienced in this field can better advise the actual rules etc

We got our trailer initially to do a house renovation, it's an Ifor Williams P6e (hubby thinks I'm incredibly sad for knowing what model it is), we paid a lot of money for it back in 2006 and hubby did want to sell it after doing the house but I didn't want it to go, its just too useful ... house decluttering, moving furniture, collecting tiles and now its latest use was to haul all my camping stuff to France and back which it did beautifully.
Saying that, its not perfect. Having loaded everything, I found I had no room for my new comfy chairs that I'd bought specifically to go on holiday so we were relegated back to our camping chairs just to get them in. We have now decided to buy the metal mesh sides and rig some sort of weather proofing around them (still to be decided what yet) to increase the capacity. In case anyone is interested about the investment part, I've been told the trailer is probably worth more now that what I paid for it, but then it is pampered and stored indoors and gets a jetwash after every trip.
