hi all, we are thinking of buying a 5m soulpad..to use for 2 adults and 2 small children (under 3) and wonder whether it will be big enough for weekend pitches and if anyone uses it for any longer than just a couple of nights? They look really fab and wonder whether we might get away with a longer holiday in it. We dont take much stuff really so thoughts would be welcome..

I would say far too big and heavy for a weekend tent, for frequent weekend camping light is best. If you like the tipee style look at the Tentipi range. I use a sarfir 9 for weekends as its light and takes about 5 mins to pitch. Any longer than 30 minutes and you will get sick of it and the weekends will get less and less as time goes on.

Hi AnnaMorgan

I have the Soulpad 5m and it really doesn't take long to put up and would be fine for a weekend camp. However, you say you don't take much, but be warned that would definitely change if you bought a bell....you won't be able to resist. It's a slippery slope - ask any Bell Tent owners...

As for using it for longer than a weekend: I haven't personally, but that's only because I have other tents and haven't had the chance too yet. We are also a family of four and even though the 5m would not be our tent of choice for a long break, that’s only because we have the Emperor Bell for that.

There are lots of other Bell tent owners out there who may be able to offer advice, and I definitely know of one family of four on here that have camped in the Soulpad 5m – hopefully she will see your post.

We have a 4m bell tent for when its just me and my three children or very short stays with hubby and children, it is rather cosy but we manage ok with a fold out inflateable sofabed so we have some space during the day. I would love a 5m as I don't think they weight that much more or take up more space (ours is a 350 gsm I believe whereas the soulpads are 285 gsm) but pennies don't allow it.

I went from non camper to glamper in just months! August I was basic camping with the kids in a poly tent, no electric or even cooking utensils (one night camp with take out), September we had a sofabed and fairy lights then October this:

The only thing to think about with a bell tent is you will need a seperate space to cook, I wouldn't risk cooking in such a space with children about even if in the middle of the tent as others have suggested in older posts.
