A big thanks to everyone at Morfa Bychan campsite on Fri morning who braved the wind and rain to help us to take down our tent, after the terrible weather on Thursday night. We would never have been able to do it on our own,and it meant that we had luckily left the area just before the terrible scenes that unfolded later in the day.

Restores your faith in human nature, doesn't it? Glad your story had a happy ending, Col, and you found such kind helpers.

I'm guessing there were no UKCS's at our site on Thursday pm when we could have sooo done with an extra pair of hands to help us get our already damaged tent down in the still gale-force winds....

My poor DD (5yrs) was distraught, just wanting to go into the tent, even though the front door was laying on the ground :-( ... we finally got her to sit in the car ... and it then took us (my DH and I) about an hour and a half to get the battered tent down, rescue everything and bundle all in the car as darkness had descended ... not a peep from anyone in the few surrounding tents, even the one right next to us who had a DD same age, mine had befriended briefly on arrival the day before :-(  - although the father did appear as we were about to drive away, crossing the field with his washing up and not a glance in our direction.

Anyway, we haven't given up faith in camping or fellow campers and are busy planning our next adventure - maybe this time we'll risk sunburn instead ;-))) and meet a few lovely UKCSs if we actually get chance to venture out of the tent :)

Not quite unscathed, had to order a new set of poles as tent was ok structurally, until we started taking it down,at which point it lost it's rigidity and bent a few poles :(

Most campers are really helpful -definately we all pitched in when needed n the last week especially when children were scared (we were too but did not show it).

What does it cost anyone to hold the corner of a tent..or a pole when someone is decamping in foul weather??

Thank goodness there are far more folk about like the ones Col met...Than the ones Purpleintent camped beside....

Am glad you had a good experience of fellow campers Col and you are ok,but....purpleintent,that's terrible,I can't imagine standing by while someone is struggling in gale force winds and rain,I hope your daughter is ok,horrible experience for her.

I have been known to pull up a seat and watch the inevitable pitching arguement but that is slightly different, and have offered a cuppa once the fight is over!!

Most campers are a helpful bunch,I hope the experience of ignorant campers doesn't put you off Purpleintent.

I cant believe people cant be bothered to help, we were on a rather windy site a couple of weeks ago, we had pitched our tent (major struggle) and another couple were having major problems, had no hesitation in going over and offering another couple of pairs of hands - they said that if we hadnt they would have had to have gone home, they were so grateful, got talking to them and turns out they are from the same town as us!  Bless them they even bought us a bottle of wine to say thank you.

Another one here with cause to be grateful to the people near us in Cheddar on Thursday, who got the staff to ring us to come back to our tents when things were getting bad, then helped to secure the porch on my tent and sort out the mess of the tent next to me which had lost its awning. And yes, they got a bottle of wine too!

I am surprised that any campers, UKCS or not, let someone struggle without offering to help. I've lost count of the number of times people have helped us out in small ways and big ones. We always try to pass on the favour if we see someone else struggling. After all, on a campsite you can hardly say you didn't know your neighbours needed help.

I'm glad Col got help but the nasty me wishes that Purpleintent's neighbours need help themselves some time.
