Looking at fashioning a tarp over the front of my family tunnel tent - mainly for cooking in inclement weather. I have poles and a tarp sheet that I can use, guy ropes etc. What I'm stuck on is how to hold the tarp to the front roof pole sleeves. I need some sort of clamp as I obviously can't puncture the sleeve fabric to push an awning clip through. Any ideas?
Tie the end of the tarp onto the poles further down from the sleeve fabric??? You should only need the two corners of the tarp tied to hold it steady...Have a look at Jim Call's latest pic's on the Red Squirrel round 2 thread on the meeting up section on here I think there is a pic of my tent with the tarp on...Might give you an Idea of what I'm talking about

Look on ebay for grabits as well, extremely useful for positioning tarps. You can basically attach extra guys whereever you need and reposition them at will as they arent permanent.
We use a large blue pu tarp using these and king poles, works a treat.
Get a 4*3 tarp, throw 2 or three lines over the tent and peg down (using the short side of the tarp) then using 2 or 3 king poles at the front, you have a cracking place to chill !
Instead of attaching the tarp to the tent as in JimCall's pic, Why not remove some sections from the king pole and make them shorter and position them at an angle.

See, this is why this site is my camping bible.....I thought about doing it this way but wasn't sure if I could get away with it....I shall have a go on our next camp.....thank you so much
This is my former tunnel with tarp, set up the way JimCall described but with use of the side entrance:
Never mind my scowl; charcoal was damp and wouldn't light fast enough for my spoiled liking. Also, the picture is about 25 kilos old; that's how much I lost, in spite (or thanks to!) BBQ...
In the pic below, the tarp was secured in the back and sides via guys, and the front with 2 king poles and guys.
With my Khyam Excelsior XL tent, I had used an Aldi tarp/shader over the side entrance by securing it over the tent using a couple of guys as JimCall described.
