We decided (after getting tip on here) to bin ours and switch to a 5L container from supermarket. Couldn't cope with plastic flavoured tea anymore and had washed it out twice.

Everything has been said before, but since nobody ever listens we have to keep going back and saying it all over again and again and again
Our collapsible container from the pound shop leaked at the tap, so we binned it at the end of our week. Was thinking of getting one of the 14l buckets with tap from Oxfam (tried a link but didn't work). Has anyone got one & do they make the water taste plasticky?
Any plastic container for drinking water needs to be made from food grade plastic. Containers made from non food grade plastic may leech chemicals so are unsuitable for drinking water.
A water container from a camping/caravan shop should be ok as are 5litre mineral water containers obviously. Containers bought from £1 shops may well not be ok.
After year of camping we have never had a problem with the plastic water carrier......The last one we had lasted 8 years and we only replaced it because the tap on it became damaged......the problem we have had is that water tastes different in different areas and there is a major difference between the soft water we are used to at home and hard water elsewhere and we have had to descale the kettle.
I ditched the collapsible plastic containers, and use a stainless steel and a plastic kettle to hold water.
