OK so off for our 3rd camping trip this year tomorrow....1st was to Oulton Park Superbikes, lovely and dry and even a bit sunny. 2nd was Jubilee weekend to Christchurch Campsite in the Far East of Dean - rained ALL wknd...major strop on by me and even cried on the Sunday morning

So we are off too Northam Farm tomorrow and the weather forecast is shocking - I only booked it yesterday and if it wasn't for the lady telling me its none refundable I would be cancelling - call me a drama queen glamper but I CANNOT cope with this RAIN and WETNESS!! Grrr Am I asking too much for ONE night of SUNSHINE sat outside my tent with a pint of G&T and a BBQ??!! HUhhh??!!

Only consolation is my parents are there for the week in their caravan (with HEAT) and my Dad has very kindly made me a EHU!!!!

Aw Elle I hear ya. I've only camped one night this year (in March!) and had to cancel 2 other trips due to the awful weather. I'll be crossing my fingers for you for sunshine this weekend

Than you - I just called my Mom and actually it was NOT raining there....so who knows....

After putting up the tent last time with hubby, and amazingly having NOT had a row he announces "I am really not that keen on camping anyway" I was shocked as I thought it was ME?!

Well I can't blame him as he has just spent 4 months in a tent in Norway in -30.....

we have had 5 camping trips this year so far total of around 18 nights and only had 2 dry days so count yourself lucky.

hopefully the next trip in July/August will be drier lol

We set off last weekend in awful rain to go to Pickering North Yorkshire. Would have cancelled but grandchildren were excited. Never pitched in pouring rain so planning what to do first on way down. We live near Durham, and weather forecast was bad all over.

We got half way and rain was easing. Bye the time we came off A19 it was just odd spots of rain. With fingers crossed we arrived at the site and although grass was wet, it wasnt raining and we pitched tent. Kids were running around with their wellies on.  Only odd spots of rain during the afternoon, and when we went out for tea (a treat) the sun was shining.

During the night it rained but fine when we got up.

We then decided to go to Scarborough and,  when we arrived we had a heavy shower so we went in a cafe for a cuppa. Sun came out and kids had a few rides on the shows and we sat on the beach and had sandwiches. It started to rain slighty, but by the time we got back to the site it had stopped. we played games on the field and had a barbecue. On Sunday morning it was lovely, warm and clear skies when I took the youngest to the toilet block at 6.45am. I made a cuppa and we both sat outside in the morning sunshine. No rain at all Sunday moring and packed up no bother.

Then heading back  on A19 it was torrential rain and when we got home my daughter said it had been terrible all weekend. She couldnt believe we'd had lovely time and had been on beach.

So ElleB maybe the forecast will be wrong, just like it was for us. Enjoy your trip

Same here.....have to expect some rain...it is England after all! .... but I do hate the wind. Sadly, in our last 6 camping trips, we've had a fair it of both at all of them!

A decent set of waterproofs and a pair of wellies ,oh and a canopy to sit under with your pint of gin and you will be fine,it's the wind that does the damage.Hope you have a great time regardless of the weather.

Does no-one else like the rain when camping? I love listening to it on the tent when I`m lovely and snug inside , kind of hypnotic. Sends me to sleep

I wouldn't mind the rain if it wasn't for the DRYING of the tent back home...

I don't mind the rain AT NIGHT when I am in ed - its the restriction it puts on my sitting outside the tent/BBQing time! LOL

I am going to man up and get on with it though!

just to check...when you Dad made you an EHU...is it a safe one or a 4 way adaptor connected to an outdoor plug? As tempting as it is I wouldn't use one that didn't have plugs with covers and trip switches.
ie use this type not this type

Its all part of camping when it rains. I like to sound of rain on the tent, and dont mind packing up or setting up in the rain. Why camp if your worried about it raining. Its the UK and we get warmer weather in the winter and less rain, than we do in the summer.

Weather doesn't look that good for brean this weekend but, you'll be fine as there is plenty to do. Just make sure you've got your waterproofs and wellies! Failing that just go to the seagull for a pint or two!
