Can't really help with the weather, as it's raining here in Lancs, as usual.
However, just wanted to comment on your lost deposit. Just how important is it to book and pay in advance during this out of season? When we went away weekends last summer, even July and Aug, I rang up the night before to book, and they were never full. Mind you, we don't go for holiday park type places.
i booked the site last week when i was looking through places to camp with ehu that werent far from lockerbie and they only had 1 grass pitch left unbooked with ehu.
so im guessing they do get booked up - even out of school holidays - with folks who are not school-holiday dependant, retirees, overseas visitors etc etc
i wanna try again for next weekend if the weather improves - i am desperate to get out in my new tent!
also just to add to reply to franbee ... the twenty pounds deposit was to hold the pitch for us, its 14 pounds a night there so we escaped with 8 pounds and the site probably lost a whole lot more due to the weather as the guy who was very helpful and friendly said that lots of people had cancelled too. - it must be hard for site owners this weather as they still have costs and less money coming in to pay for things / site upkeep and improvements for the future so its not good for the whole industry this terrible weather!
Actually, really useful for a regular thread like this to check the actual weather conditions around the country, perhaps on a Friday, with a view to weekend campers!
Just for the record, today in East Northants it is dry but extremely windy, too windy for tents in my opinion. Also keeps threatening to rain too.
------------- its me again!
