I don't think you should rely on weather forecasts in this country, if you did you would never go anywhere lol! lets face it if you can't be sure in June ....???
I think your biggest challenge in poor weather is getting the tent up, this can be stressful if your not familiar with the tent, so if possible have a go in the garden before you go.
My daughter always resisted camping but due to financial restraints ( and the fact that she was desperate for a break )they went away with another young family. On arrival as was predictable the heavens opened.
They locked the kids in the car, 'threw' the tent up,once they got organised all the kids piled out and happy days they had a ball, I think like many things in life you have to make the most of it. take wellies and change of clothes and just have fun.( my daughter had 3 children 12,7,and 2 on her first camping trip and she's just had her 4th !! so it's camping again this year, and hopefully for many more years to come.
ENJOY !!
------------- I am lost, i'v gone to look for myself, If I should return before I get back, Please ask me to wait.

I use BBC for the weather as there are a variety of time scales you check.
Personally, the way I look at camping is through a glass of cider darkly- you are going to face problems with your gear, warmth, the weather, roll-together , and probably the kids screaming the campsite down late at night when they wake up in unfamiliar circumstances. I find a mug-of-tea and a bacon sandwich cooked in the fresh air drives away night terrors and makes you ask yourself "How can I improve things?" And that's when you know you have the camping bug. Because that day you can go out and find a tesco's and buy a cheap double sleeping bag and put it under your bed. Hey presto you're warm in bed the next night. You are probably going to be doing that sort of thing for some years to come. The best bit is that when you are home and thinking about your holidays the lovely lovely internet comes in and you can browse for as long as you like about solutions to your camping issues. Don't let one camping trip decide it one way or another- identify your issues, cold etc, and keep hubby on-board by talking to him about solutions you have found.
I see you posted loads more than me but can I say again, as its your first time out DO NOT BRING BAR_B_Q'S INTO YOUR TENT AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN LIT. I have some professional experience of treating people with severe Carboxy-Haemoglobin poisoning, it can be severely life-changing.
oh buy a wee-bucket because you are going to need to sleep at some point cause your nippers are bound to want to piddle in the middle of the night and dressing them, going to the toilet block in the night is more work than a pee bucket. Blue fluid kills smells. I have to say wifey and I love the expediency of the "pizbucket" because just like campers cider never seems to want to stay in just one place for any length of time.
