As far as i know there isn't a direct route from Newqay to St Ives so you would have to change trains a couple of times and it would take you between 2 to 3 hours.

Nearest station to Treloy are Newquay or Quintrell Downs.

You could drive to Lelant Saltings and catch the train in to St Ives, it is supposed to be a lovely trip from there

If you use the National Rail enquiries website to put your journey in it will show you how many changes there are as well as where you change, how long it will take and fares.

The train ride from Lelant to St Ives is highly recommended - the track follows the coast and the views are stunning. It looks like Lelant is a 50 minute drive from Treloy if you don't want to change trains.

Newquay and St Ives are both served by branches (dead-end lines) which branch off the mainline from Plymouth to Penzance. So it is possible to travel between the two places by train.

The journey involves three stages. First, catch the train on the Newquay branchline and alight at its junction with the mainline at Par. Change there to a westbound mainline train and alight at St Erth station. From St Erth, catch the branch train to St Ives.

The Newquay-Par branch is about 20 miles long, the St Ives branch is about 5 miles, and from Par to St Erth on the mainline is about 40 miles.

Trains on both branches are generally timed to connect with mainline services (but not in all cases).

It would make a really great day out (assuming you enjoy train travel) but with all the changes it is not a quick journey - see First Great Western or The Trainline websites for timetables ( www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk ). It needn't cost much either - look for the Cornwall 'rover' tickets on offer for unlimited rail travel in the county.

If you just want to enjoy the St Ives branch with its fabulous sea views, then to drive to St Erth or Lelant to catch the train.
