Secondly, the more carefully and thoroughly one pitches the longer it will take. Yes, anyone can throw a tent up willy-nilly in record time - but they'll repent at their leisure!

Thirdly, I suspect some people tend to under-estimate pitching time. My minimalist set-up feels as if it's up and fitted-out in under half-an-hour yet the clock always surprises me by showing how long it has really taken me.

Fourth, I am saddened by how many people seem to include having arguments and rows (or, conversely, feel the need to say they remain calm). Is this UKCS or a marriage guidance forum?

Depends on weather mainly, then if I'm on my own with the kids or have someone to entertain them while I solo set up (my prefered method as HE can't get it right so may as well do it all myself and he gets to pump up the sofabed with the girls). Anything from half hour with just basic tent, beds and a few bits chucked in the tent to a few hours for full set up with kitchen area.

When we first started, it took us forever getting set up, but now we've honed our erection skills and we manage to get the tent up in an hour plus, then another hour plus getting set up inside.. so all in probably 2 1/2 hours... we genuinely both hate it... hard work when the kids are getting bored. We generally start off being quite a team, the Wife and me :-) then by the end of it, we're usually hot, sweaty, and not talking :-) this year I've said we'll have something chilling in the coolbox to sip on once finished... weekend trips are just not feasible for us... we need a good few days to recover before we pack away :-)
