We're camping in Newquay next week and have booked the site from this Saturday coming for 6 nights. We booked it a month or so ago, so had no idea what the weather would be like.
I've just checked and it's forecast 22mph wind! Does any one have any tips on pitching the tent in wind? Last time we tried we failed and tried again the next day when it was less windy!
We have a Montana 6 so it's fairly simple to erect but it's quite big!
im down in perranporth newquay monday for 18 nights weather isnt looking good its my first time pitching my tent and its huge so fingers crossed got my delta pegs ready lol
Peg the 4 corners out first before doing anything else to stop it blowing away

the easiest way to do it is to lay the Monty out on the ground with its tail to the wind...peg out the back edge and then insert all the roof poles and finally the upright poles...gather all the pole sections together starting from the front and moving them to the back then lift all the pole sections vertically at the same time...as the tent will have its tail to the wind the wind will actually assist you as you "walk" the pole sections forward into position...roughly peg out the guys at the front of the tent purely to hold the tent upright whilst you complete the pegging out of the fly sheet etc and finally the guys...
we've found that it's best to keep the mesh doors zipped closed so that the tent holds its shape during pitching, but leave the bottom third of the outer doors open to prevent a vacuum forming inside the tent...once the tent is upright then you can zip the doors up fully before pegging out...

I'm a little bit twitchy too. We are going to Polruan (Fowey) on Saturday for 2 weeks, the campsite is on the headland at the top of the village with sea views so I'm not expecting it to be a very sheltered site, winds are forecast for approx 23 mph. We've booked EHU so we're assuming we'll be assigned a pitch but hoping to get there early enough to have a choice. If it looks really dodgy I'm happy to forego EHU in favour of a more suitable pitch. That said we found our Idaho L to be fairly stable in some gusty winds last time, it's just getting it pitched properly. Let's hope the winds drop a bit and the sun comes out!
"3ph winds are really nothing to worry about. I would still peg the 4 corners of the tent out first Ive seen a few tents take off when only 2 corners have been pegged before putting roof poles in.
