I'm planning an adventure: baby boy (15months)and me to a family-friendly festival. Have planned out sensible amount of kit to take and sleeping situation.

Only thing I'm slightly apprehensive about is using the loos. As it's just me I will need to take him with me. However he at the crawling and walking stage. I couldn't guarantee he'd stay on his feet in a hellish festival portaloo. I'm not going to be able to hold it in for a whole weekend!

Any tips?

Is a Kampa Khazi an option for nighttime at a festival do you think (for number 1s!)? Could you just cowp it down the portaloo in the morning?

Hiya kate,
What festival are you going to? we use a kampa khazi at festivals and just pour it down the loos the next day.we were at wickerman last year with toddlers and the loos were not to gross you should maybe buy a ticket for the posh loos if the festival does them?
Have a good time,we are going to at least 2 family festivals this year,kids cant wait

We were at Larmer Tree year or 2 back & they had CDPs you could use if you have a (Lidl's variety of a) Thetford!

Very handy!

The portaloos weren't too bad until the last day.

There is a dedicated family campsite which even has showers so I'm hoping it won't be too horrendous.

May invest in a khazi then. Is that the form? Do you just tip it down the loo? Chemical toilet point is just for treated waste, is that right?

We use a porta potti for our little ones when we go camping. It's like a potty but with collapsable folding sides so it can fold flat and fit easily into a rucksack. You don't even need to clean them as it uses disposable lined bags, suitable for number 1's and 2's, which you unhook tie up and just bin afterwards. Google it as I can't remember where we got it, might have been jojo mama bebe or whatever it's called.
My wife even found it useful once when we got stuck on the m11 for a few hours.

Sounds good that - can grown ups use it?! The wee fella is in nappies so he's no problem. It's more that I don't want him crawling round in shhhh on the portaloo floor while I go :)

Sunny Day Camper - we are hoping to go to the Big Tent at Falkland - your neck of the woods. Have you been? Apparently it's not the same site as last year, but the same site that they used in 2010.

Kate,never been to that festival, but heard lots of good stuff about it.i am sure the loos wont be as bad as somewhere like T In The Park.:) hope you both have a great time.we are away to the Wickerman that same weekend cant wait.

would like to say the porta potty has been used by adults in our tent in emergency situations! It is fine, def not the luxury option, but to make sure the liquid is not sloshing about we now chuck in an incontinence pad and it's fine to use/dispose of when an adult has used it. without the pad it's a large bag of wee and I was always worried it would burst!!!! Certainly better than leaving the tent full of sleeping kids and no adult.

That helps a lot, Ribble, ta. I understand you can get bags with crystals in them that soak up a lot of liquid.
