Hi,

Me and my hubby have just purchased the nevada 10 man tent, cheap on Ebay without taking into account the size of the it! It has just occured to us as we lay the groundsheet out, a whole 7 meters of it, we may not be abe to take it to campsites as they dont have pitches big enough for us??

As newbys we were hoping to go to the main resorts so there was plenty on hand for us and the kids but thier pitch sizes are 6x6 ft.

Please help! Can anyone re assure me that we still can use it.....somewhere?

Many thanks,

Sam

many people have 7m tents here so will be able to advise from experience, there were some larger tents at some of the Park Resorts we have been to which specify 6m x 6m but I don't think they are strict on that especially if camping without electric hook up.

Rejoice, you got a humungous tent cheap!

Now buy another one, slightly smaller, so you have two tents, one for holidays where big tents are catered for and one for sites where they're not.

Then buy another one for weekend trips which is smaller still. Before you know it, you'll have a jolly family of multiple tents, and the perfect one for every camp! Just like the rest of us! Win/Win!

Seriously, there are loads of sites which welcome big tents. The bigger the tent, the more people will be paying their fees! Have a great time!

Don't think it's 6 x 6 ft, Sammie, otherwise we'd all be struggling.

I've not been anywhere with my 7.3m x 3.3 m (from memory?) tent yet, but I get the impression that anything less than 8m x 8m would be classed as a small pitch, and that there are plenty of 10 x 10's out there. I also get the impression that if you don't go for EHU, many places will put you in a field and allow you to pretty much "pitch where you want" and spread out.
Like I say, I've not been anywhere yet, but I hope to God I'm at least on the right lines!!!

We have a large tent 7.7 x 4.8m and we can always find a site. We always have an EHU pitch as well, so it`s really not an issue.

I pitch at roughly 6.5m by 6.5m (with my porch up so not truly square.) i think you'll be ok with some clever car parking on 90% of sites.

an i dont think i am that big of an pitch lol some of these tents are real goliaths!

You won't have a problem, just have a look here:

Sites accepting large tents

We have a large tent and haven't had a problem at any site we've visited. Always worth a quick call to the site just to check, but you should be fine.

Just going to say theres a link on here about sites accepting large tents...

I'm not bragging.....but ours is massive compared to yours LOL. Our diablo 900 requires a 10 x 10 mtr pitch and weve been to loads and its been fine, even had room for day tent too!!!

I've paid extra for larger pitches (Unity Farm) and been shown to a normal sized pitch and so complained and given one that was longer but not wider????

Weve been to Chy Carne, Unity farm - both with leccy & Midbrooks &  Pantglas Farm without.

FoO you are a bad influence!!!! Nobody needs multiple tents (ahem, cough, splutter),one is quite sufficient.

Well done at getting a bargain, even if it is an aircraft hanger (joking),we used to have a monster tent and didn't have any problems, relax and enjoy!

Mine is 7 x 3.5 metres and I wouldn't call it big these days. We've never had a problem with it, the very mainstream site we have booked for this year has pitches 10x10 meters and we told them the dimensions of the tent before we booked.

I camped on 6x6 metres at the Hay Festival & had to get my car on there too. We took a smaller tent & just had enough room spare to open the car doors. I wouldn't fancy a week with kids on a 6x6 pitch!

I have a 7.4m x 3.3m tent which I chose partly because it didn't breach the 5m WIDE rule some campsites have.

It's almost always the width dimension that is limited rather than length.

Are you sure about the 6ft x 6ft?  That means only the small, festival type tents would fit.
