I've seen quite a few people camping with a tv.ive got a small 19" flat screen with free view and was wandering what's the best way to get a signal? What's the best type of aerial to get.? I tried it before with a big pole with a normal house aerial on it and got nothing but then again I was in a deep valley in Wales. Going to polmanter,st Ives for 2wks in August so was thinking of trying it there.
Thanks, Andy
Your system should work fine, there are loads of camping aerials out there though that are probably easier to transport. As long as you have a rough idea of where the transmitter or relay station is and all your connections are in good order. A compass is handy, just check the direction of the majority of aerials in the area.
I also use a house aerial on a pole and have always got some sort of signal, even if not all channels available.
I assume you did retune your TV to the new area?
Yeah , I tried retuning . I have an aluminium clothes prop with the old house aerial attached and a thin coaxial cable . Wasn't sure if the cable was too thin ? Like i say,Maybe it was just because we were in this valley when we were in Wales . Hopefully polmanter will be ok ??
Thanks
there is no such thing as a good aerial for all situations , other wise every aerial on every house would be the identical , buy a 10 to 32 wide band aeriel for domestic use depending how much room you have for storing , try this web site for good info
After 5 years of camping and hubby moaning about no t.v, i have finally given in and let his buy an ariel so he can take a t,v camping...................
We have been and bought a Vision plus IMAGE 420 digital antenna and the mast.

2013 Season.
Upgraded from a TT to a caravan.
Loving it!
Roll on summer :-)
Also, don't forget to check whether the local transmitter has horizontal or vertical polarisation. Most of the main transmitters seem to be horizontal, while many of the repeaters are vertical.
The signal level will be drastically reduced if you get this wrong.
