Well my wee one has had a shower in the caravan as we have fe larger style room at the back. Friend took one of her girls into main showers and temp was reduced and they managed ok. It wasn't the fact we ended up worried how we'd cope, after all wipes come in handy, just thought that it seemed an unusual practice that we hadn't come across before, usually just a deposit for the key. We dont ever use family rooms normally just various issues here with the showers led us to try the room.
They are cleaned by their teenage son, dont think many teenage boys would make a good job of cleaning public toilets.....

If you have Radar key, you should get in it with it, I have one and it fit all disabled showers and toilets on ever site that has them, and any disabled toilet in towns and villages.

Radar keys not used at all on CCCclub sites and they either have a key you pay deposit on or its open.

Only off site is the radar key used in connection to the club sites. Cannot say anything about cc club somebody else could who is a member of it.

I am a member of the Caravan club, and they use a variety of lock types for disabled access to their bathrooms, the more modern blocks do indeed use the Radar keys, whilst the older blocks the access is via a key or keypad code available from the reception office, a £5 deposit being payable for the key or disc at the time of booking in at reception.

The Warwick Racecouse CC site uses the Keypad entry system for all members using the toilet block, and can be a bit of a pain if your desparate to go and have forgotten the number!

Had a sudden thought. How would they 'police' 30 minutes use of the room? Suddenly turn off the lights or water? Come and bang on the door "your time is up"?

I use disabled facilities but they are so variable when family rooms double up as disabled persons room. Went on one site and the owner told me all he did to make it into disabled facility was to put a shower and small seat on the wall, couple of rails near toilet, and the disabled logo sign on external door. It showed. Nowhere to put anything, no hooks or shelving, not even a mirror and no 'dressing' seat. The floor had no adequate drainage. I struggled and campers in wheelchairs would have difficulty in getting into the room, plenty room inside though. There was a £5 returnable deposit on a key.

For me as OA and mobility worsen I would be very happy to pay for the use of a disabled facility if it was a fully fitted wetroom as previously described and solely for disabled people.

£3.50, on top of the already extortionate £32 per night?

Jeez.

I can understand a deposit for a key, which is returned at the end of your stay - as this would stop everybody else using the family room.   Nothing more annoying than waiting to shower a couple of kids (as well as yourself) only to have a teenager come out of the family room.
I am now fortunate that Alice is old enough to go in by herself, and if need be I will use the disabled facilities with Pip, who has no sense of time - it is bad at home, if I don't think on he can be in the shower up to an hour.

We stayed there and found it a great little site.As a family we didnt feel the need to use anything other than the main showers and toilets.

Its does seem excessive for one use but the market will dictate if people pay it or not.I suspect those that rent the cabins there are most likely to pay it as they are ea lot anyway and probably the target demographic.

As for the extremely judgemental comment about the teenage son not cleaning the toilets properly, what can i say ?

What chance do the youth of this country have when others are judging those that do actually work and their standards of work without even seeing their work !!

Any teenage boy who is man enough to carry out work like this gets a massive thumbs up from me as they will go far in life as nothing is beneath them.

total rip off in my book...where ever I've stayed its just a matter of asking for the key to use the bathroom instead of the showers, how dare they ask for more on top..

Not sure why they felt the need to install a bath and charge that fee. All sites that I've been on with a family room of any kind has either been a room with a shower and toilet in or else it's a room that has a couple of deep sinks.... these will easily accommodate a toddler for a quick bath and only take as much water as a shower would use anyway. Cost for using aside, surely the sink is a much better option environmentally speaking as well because you will use less water?

I totally agree with other comments that this is a total rip off and at worst discrimination of families and the disabled (if they charge for disabled), if they dont then it is discrimination towards families.

I cannot understand them having a bath in there when a disabled person, (thinking about it from my husbands point of view, who is disabled) would much rather use a shower than attempt to climb in and out of a bath.

All that said I think that after paying £32 per night to pay more money for use of this facility is totally wrong.  Yes a deposit for the key having this refunded on return.

Let me guess, Alpine Grove near Chard by any chance? We stayed there at easter a couple of years ago and this is the fery reason we won't be returning.

Well I did see this boys work and I can tell you it was of a very poor standard! Ok maybe I should have worded more carefully for some people. I would guess that he wasn't being paid, or not much, didn't choose it as a job, and perhaps not that happy to be doing it. Whatever this "particular" boys reason, the toilets weren't that clean and often had a foul smell.

Yes it was Alpine Grove near Chard.

Reading the thread I'm confused.

Can you imagine the uproar if the site fees stated £20 per pitch able bodied, £23.50 per pitch disabled (including facilities)

As a Union Rep and disability advisor at work, I'd fight that to court with a probable win at the end of it.

The site we stay at has a family bathroom and charges £1 per 45minutes use and a deposit of £5 which is returned when you hand the key back. For us it was great as our little boy(aged 2) hated having a shower so the bath was very handy especially after being at the beach.I can understand paying extra for a bath with the extra cost it involves but charging extra to use a family shower is wrong.
