You know when you get one of those very odd occasions when you manage to pack your tent up dry? they do happen even if they are hard to remember. happened to us today, I knew the very bottom of the base seconds full was damp so opened it out to dry when I got home. I also knew that the sleeping pop up was dry but for completeness sake I opened it out. So glad I did there was a very alive caterpillar building itself a cocoon on my tent!! It was not pleased when I pulled it off. I do have a photo and will post when my computer cooperates. I could not believe it.
So even when dry it is best to open your tent and check it when you get home
I know what you mean purple! I managed to get my big Asante and awning down dry from Isay last weekend. Inside were 5 beetles, 3 million midgies, 2 dead squirrels and a dead weasel!
Ok I lied about the squirrels and weasel
I learned the hard way though about packing a seemingly dry tent away with the sleeping pod attached. Condensation formed above it and as a result some midew stains on inner and fly, so its worth doing what you did

Jim that's my worst nightmare as we sometimes store the car key in the tent pocket. Before I start packing down I make sure keys are in the car. I'm sure we will be caught out at sometime, sat in the car, packed down and ready to go...where's the car key...?

We've done (or rather OH did) the keys thing, and because we were coming home we'd packed the tent in the car first.
Closest to justifiable homicide I think I've ever been
Oh no. I must admit this feels me with the horrors.
Knowing my luck we will just get packed down, ready to go then realise the car keys are still in the tent just as the weather turns wet & windy.....
yup done the key thing. Was showing off a couple of years ago as other campers watching fascinated with my pop up Quechua base tent. Swish swish swirl, into the boot, drivers seat, no keys, slink to boot, unswirl, scrabble, chuck in back and drive off.
We did it last weekend (Key thing) all packed up, tent in car , ready to drive off, me: did you get keys out of pocket? oh: no thought you had them, ermm no still in tent!

Haha glad it isn't just us that has done that. Ours is still attached to the Oakland, we didn't notice as we packed it away and we've only been away in the smaller tent since then so it is still there ready for the next trip.
Where's my bum & other things. Sitting on it in my wheelie. I always have the keys passed on my OH; now after this lot I know why they are given to me.
So I could get the blame if missing. Cheeky or wise.hmmmm.
Not done the keys but a wristwatch. Looked everywhere except tent pocket. Even put tent away and never felt it in there. Discovered when I pitched and checked tent pre selling on.

We felt a UFO light-shaped lump as were folding the tent up last month. I'm ashamed to say we went "meh, we're putting it up again in a few weeks, it'll keep til then" and carried on folding.
Rolled out my little cycling/backpacking tent the other night for a party and found my emergency hat. Wondered why that was there and then remembered it was my emergency hat I vowed to keep there forever because I was freezing the last time!
