I love creating my compound, it's my space I paid for it, i'm a private person and hate folk that stare or have no concept of personal space. It also stops straying footballs, etc from annoying me, (yes I have kids of my own, they played in the designated areas not near tents)
I am also a very sociable person and yap to anyone and everyone around the campsite, but my space is most definitely my private space, complete with compound.
Same reason I choose to live in a detached house, it's more private.
See all types of folk camp, private, nosey, extrovert, introvert, grumpy etc etc etc isn't camping wonderful lol
------------- I'm working class, I do what I have to do, to get by.

I must admit I'd been curious about this too, I used to camp with the girl guides as a teen and then hadn't camped again till earlier this year, 20 years later! I was quite bemused to see the groups who surround their pitches with cars and windbreaks leaving no gaps, purely because I always thought half the fun of camping is seeing the wide open spaces, the great outdoors, etc. rather than windbreaks and the sides of their cars. I didn't judge, but it was certainly different from guide camps! :D
I have one windbreak by the stove, but love the dog idea as I have a 6 month old pup who wants to play with everyone and everything - hadn't thought of that! Might have to get another one...
------------- June - Park Farm nr Bodiam, Sussex
July - family site, Hereford
August - Red Shoot, New Forest
Camping with a 7 year old boy and a 6 month old beagle pup = chaos!
