Just back from a 18 day camping holiday staying at a few sites and was very impressed on the amount of single mums with kids who were camping, and more than capable of pitching tents of all sizes while keeping an eye on kids of all ages
I wish i had thought of camping when i was a single mum with 3 boys we could have had a ball,as a weekend in Blackpool was as much as i could afford then:( lol
ps did see lots of daddy's and kids as well

I suggested I went away alone with my DS alone and my DH looked at me like I'd got two heads Once I'd pointed out how many other Mums do this he didn't think I was such a wierdo.

I'm a single mummy!! Although I am lucky as I have teenagers to help with the tent.....not sure I could get the monster up on my own but planning something smaller for me and miss 3 for when boys don't want to come as holidays with mum are getting uncool now! :-( already having to leave mr 16 at home next time as he doesn't want to go.

On my first ever camp I was reassured by the number of women camping alone with their kiddies, made me feel I could do it too,

Used to love camping just me and the kids when they were younger. Hubby used to have to work most of the summer so we would go down to Devon for three weeks and he would join us for weekends. It was so much easier on a campsite than at home as the kids had ready made playmates and had so much to do! I just had to provide food at regular intervals .... oh, and lug all the day's equipment down to the beach when the weather was fine!

I am a single mum and I take my boy (age 6) camping all the time, up to 10 mths of the year.  He just loves it, he makes so many friends when camping.  At this stage I am really proud at how much he knows about camping ... he knows camping etiquette, he can explain the different type of tents (tunnels, bells, pyrimids, dome, frame, etc), he knows all the camping jargon, he knows you peg in at 45 degrees, .... often when I am watching newbies-adults I realise that my lil man knows a whole lot more then they do!  I think most kids love camping, whether they are with a single-parent or not, its such an adventure!

I regularly camp without my OH (he really isn't into the whole camping thing) as I hate being stuck in the house especially during the school holidays!
That was my excuse for having to buy the Licata 400 - I needed a tent that I could put up on my own but was still big enough for the 3 of us.

I am off to Upper Carr in Pickering on the 20th with 2 other mums and their children which we are all really looking forward to.

No longer single but I camped for years with two littlies.  We had a few years where we had 2 pop-ups (one for us and one for kit) so I could hang on to an investigative toddler/preschooler with one hand while pitching with the other so my slightly bigger child could peg out, but switched up to a tent with living space when eldest was 8 and could hold a pole onto a peg while I did the tension.  My two love camping because of all the times we went when they were smaller, and all the lovely people we met, so now we're a blended family we've dragged in all the others too!

If it doesn't fit inside the cars it's more than your family needs :-)

I did my very first proper camp last week and it was as a single mum of two girls aged 10 and 11. Hubby was too busy work wise so I went off on my own.   My sister and brother in law did join us later though so I wasn't all on my lonesome.

I found it easy enough once a lovely chap had helped me erect the tent - but my girls are that bit older and can go off on their own to the park on the site.

I enjoyed it so much I will be doing it all over again next year - hopefully in a different tent that I know I can manage on my own should no one offer any help.

Next camping trip is in a couple of weeks but hubby is coming along on that one too.

I'm a stay-at-home-dad-house-husband and my wife works long hours and weekends. I've just got back from three nights with our three boys on my own. I must admit I find the most tiring thing is being responsible for three of them all the time. Although, we've got short-range radios and the eldest is 11 so it's not so bad...

Still, they absolutely love camping and it's a quick and easy way to occupy them over the holidays!

First ti eI camped sithout His Lordship it was either go solo with the kids or give up the holiday.    I now often go without him, and in many ways find it easier.
From day one I laid down some simple rule:-
We get the tent up and bedrooms set, then we have fun. It used to be that we looked around the site, went oit or something, but now they can go off on their own.
They have always had jobs -
They usedto pass me pegs, and help knock them in - I would follow giving the pegs a mummy strength bash.
To anyone who is unsure I say go for it.   If need be try a site not too far from home, and have some back up for emergencies. If you don't try you will never k ow if you can do it.
