hello,

having just returned from a camping trip, when we ere packing up we found it almost impossible to remove the regulator from the butan gas bottle. turning the valve downwards to the release position and then pushing the valve inwards to unlatch it from the bottle was almost impossible and it freed eventually but i was almost resorting to having to drive home with the regulator attached to the bottle.

is there a way of lubricating the workings of the regulator that hold and release it from the gas bottle?

I dont have that type of regulator but I have seen them sticking like you mention. It probably isnt a good idea to lubricate it but all I can suggest is that you keep the contacting surfaces clean and dry. It might also help if you were to remove and refit the regulator on a daily basis when you are away. I am thinking along the lines of pressure differential build up?

As a general rule I never leave my valve connected unless in use of coarse, purely from a safety point of view, I know it is a pain to keep connecting the bottle but it doesn't take a second, I agree with Jim just keep both surfaces clean, I have never had a problem and my bottle still has gas left from 3 seasons (7kg)
