First - Site owners really need to get a grip on enforcing rules. I have experienced, along with many if not most others on this site, clear rules regarding noise at night flagrantly flouted. Campsites should be aware that if they don't take their own rules seriously they'll end up being a camping version of a "sink estate" as all us decent people go elsewhere.

This isn't killjoy stuff - I often camp as part of a group and we're not quiet; but we do tone it down at children's bedtime and make extra effort after 11.00pm.

Second - I do hope that most newbie campers take to the lifestyle as I did many years ago. But I also hope that one by-product of the wet weather this year is to discourage those who would be better off drinking John Smith Smoothpour and eating sausage and chips in Magaluff.

I'm just back from 3 weeks camping across France - four sites with very few English, mostly French and Dutch, everyone behaving respectfully and politely - including the kids. Sadly boorish behaviour is very much an English disease.

We were camping last year at Argeles sur mer in the South of France during May. The owner of the site was extolling the justifiable virtues of the area and then added

"...but you do not want to come here in July and August when the English animals arrive, it is horrible. Unfortunately the other nationalities keep away so we have to accept English money or starve"

It really made me proud to be British!

Well our old tent doesnt have deltas or even any of the guys pegged out most times and we have kids !!

Seriously unless you say something to the offenders at the time nothing will change will it ? Lets face it how many people have ever been assaulted at a campsite confronting behaviour issues ? That puts it in perspective.

Most of these people would most likely be embarressed when challenged especially the next morning with a banging headache.

Trust me its how most people are, i check tickets on buses in places like brixton, elephant & castle and streatham and as you can imagine most people arent happy at getting caught but that doesnt mean either me or my colleagues are assaulted week in week out if ever. The risk is there but its how you talk to people that really matters.I work alongside females, males, big and small old and young and all work equally effectively with people skills.

Stay calm state your point, walk away if its getting heated and contact the site wardens, job done.
