The problem at the moment is that a lot (not all) of these "chav" families used to go on their package holiday to Majorca etc. With the economy the way it is though they arenow going camping but still allowing their kids to run feral for one to two weeks.

Fingers crossed the bad weather we've had this year will mean they go back to their package holidays next year and leave the campsites to those that know how to be good parents and respectful to others.

I tend not to leave negative reviews on the grounds that I know I'm in a minority here on the sort of camping I enjoy.
If I arrive at a site and can't see the countryside for caravans, huge tents with miles of windbreaker nylon and stripy gazebos all accessed by tarmac paths then I'm going to dislike it because it's just not my kind of thing and I'm not the best judge of whether it's 'good' or not.
There's also that old quote, "If you can't say something nice............."

We went to look at a seasonal.pitch last week in mold. While looking around we seen a notice on the toilets that stated the rules and alongside the one for " NO NOISE AFTER 11. Was the owners tel no and a notice saying that if there was any noise you could ring him whatever time. We have three kids under five so we make noise. However i do dislike people who carry on regardless till the wee small hours.

Two years ago we pitched at a campsite that has won a campsite of the year award.

It was in two levels, an upper open spaced sloping level and a wooded flat lower level next to a river. We had a wonderful time there and you are allowed fires.

However, it was spoiled by some people on the upper part who were playing really loud music. And I mean REALLY loud. It wasn't late at night but I did feel our 2nd evening was spoiled by having someone else's music taste forced down our throats. We were down at the bottom and it was still loud enough for us to have had our own party, if we'd actually liked what they we playing.

I cannot for the life of me understand why you would want to play music so loudly when you know it will be heard by so many people and that you will be disturbing them. The thing is, the wardens were very much in evidence and saying nothing. I complained, as did all my tent neighbours but I was told that they noisy ones were regulars and they meant no harm. Up by the main area where they we it was sooooooo loud that it was like being at an open air disco. Fine if that's what you signed up for, but we wanted a nice chilled weekend camping.

We probably won't go there again because of this. Not so much the noisy campers, because that is really pot luck I guess, but for the attitude that they could behave with impunity because the owner kne them.

I've never had a problem anywhere else though. Not with noisy, brattish behaviour although we did have a kid cycle into our tent in France once - site was rammed and potentially very unsafe. That was supposedly one of the best camp sites in the world! I think I should avoid those lists!

I disagree, I to have a list of things I look for in a site, like many others I would imagine.
You should just leave your honest review detailing what you like and don't like and those who read your review will determine if any of the negatives would bother them.

It can be a bit like trip advisor reviews " I didn't like the wallpaper in the lounge".." the barman drew me a dirty look".." the bathroom door creaked".." full of foreigners" when they are in Spain..
Usaully ended by " I won't be back"??????

I personally read a review in full rather then just looking at it getting say 2 stars out of 5..

do you think we could have a thread running on here titled Noisy campsite ... whenever any of us have visited a site to be rowdy / noisy and the wardens not dealing with it - then we put it on here so others can avoid it too?

and perhaps a similar thread called quiet sites - a list of sites with good warden noise control and a quiet camping experience?

but what happens if the noisy site is a one off thing?

We visited a site and there was a family from hell. drunk and fighting etc etc. Owners did all the could including calling the police. Police refused to let them be kicked off site as not one of them would've been under the limit to drive legally. They were however escorted off site the following morning ( probably still over the limit)

So should I name this site as noisy site? Nope  it was for one night. it didn't ruin our holiday but I dare say the people in the tent next to the trouble makers had their holiday ruined. They had to sit in their car for appox an hour for safety while the other people fought. If these people had come and reported what had happened to them, then I dare say everyone would be ooo name and shame etc etc I wont be visiting that site.

I see what you were saying but surely a review in that case would say "there was trouble, but it was dealt with by the owners" (obviously with a bit more detail). This would show people that this was a site that enforced its rules and took the matter seriously when people behave in a manner not appropriate.

But surely it is the bad ones that you remember more than the vast majority of families who go and enjoy themselves, whose kids are well behaved.
Those that let their kids run riot at 7am rather than the mum who had kept her little one quiet since 5am.
The teenagers who shout and swear rather than those who chat nicely and come quiet time go inside.
The group who are noisy till the early hours, rather than that group who laughed and chatted until 10.30 when they went into their own units.

Yes there are sites where there are no rules or the rules are not upheld - but on the majority of sites it does go quiet after around 11.

Unfortunately this kind of thing seems to be getting more and more common on some sites

We decided to avoid one of our favourite campsites during peak times because we were made to feel really quite angry and somewhat upset by the attitudes and behaviours of some of the people that were staying there....

It doesn't mean that we don't visit there anymore, just not during school holidays when it seems that this type of camper come out of the woodwork, the site has security and a warden but a lot of the "trouble" was seen during the day mainly from children but when it comes down to some of the things these children were saying, it could have only come from their parents......

I let the owners know and they were obviously devastated but when you think about it, they can't stop everyone at the gate and give them a personality check....... can they ????

I agree that some sites don't seem to do enough and have had the same experience at the same site as lullabelle, it's not about what you know but who you know at that particular site i'm afraid

I think with a bit of homework, you can use the reviews on here in conjunction with a bit of asking about etc and make the right choice, we have had no problems this year with noise, bullying, rowdiness or bad neighbours, just a great, relaxing time, just as it should be........ Don't let these issues put you off, there are hundreds of other sites to choose from

I definately wouldnt say avoid the site - the site was excellent - but I would choose to go not in the summer holidays in future. I highly recommend the site and will be going back for weekend trips or midweek if we go up to visit family. There was no music, no parties or anything like that - it was purely teenagers and their behaviour, sorry to say but the grating sound of a whiney essex teenage gang yelling at each other until 11pm is not something I want to hear.

I purely think this was a summer holiday thing.
